I have come to the conclusion, with the benefit of history, that Lee was never taken advantage of by his underlings. Lee himself manipulated the statistics for his own gain.

Well, I do think there was the family aspect. If anyone had an influence on Lee, it was his two sons. I think in regards to the direction of his ministry, yes, he determined the direction of everything. I just wonder who Lee was most closely working with to develop the statistics and various other propaganda to promote the new way.
