We enjoyed singing this song this morning in Scottsdale. It was penned several decades ago and we used to sing it in the LC. FYI - someone here some time ago changed one line in the chorus from "Come and see the saints in one accord" to "Called to be the saints in one accord." (This makes it less elitist sounding.)

Was this music taken from a pop song or . . . ?It has such a classic hymn, or more accurately, gospel song sound. Like something we sang in the AOG (Assemblies of God) in my youth. But while it seems to dance around the tune for "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder," I can't figure out a tune. That Shazam app might figure it out, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does not have much of old tent revival tunes and such, so you wouldn't know if it was truly original or just not covered.

In any case, my very dilapidated supplement (yes, I still have it buried with a lot of other music) makes no reference to tune, title, or to an existing hymn in the standard LC hymnal. And my sister just texted someone we both figure would know, so maybe I will have an answer soon.

In my last years in the LC when we did sing it I was struck by how it didn’t match the repressive atmosphere in the LC. Today I was singing it with joy on my drive to work and was thankful to be truly free in Christ, including from the repressive LSM. I found I could exchange “sins galling fetters” with “LSM fetters” and it worked.

It has such a classic hymn, or more accurately, gospel song sound. Like something we sang in the AOG (Assemblies of God) in my youth. But while it seems to dance around the tune for "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder," I can't figure out a tune. That Shazam app might figure it out, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does not have much of old tent revival tunes and such, so you wouldn't know if it was truly original or just not covered.

In any case, my very dilapidated supplement (yes, I still have it buried with a lot of other music) makes no reference to tune, title, or to an existing hymn in the standard LC hymnal. And my sister just texted someone we both figure would know, so maybe I will have an answer soon.

Great song, Raptor.

We sang O Holy Night at a Christmas Eve service this week. Upon reviewing the words on the screen I realized how much I had let the Local Church's negative attitude toward Christmas ruin the experience of singing to Him with all of my heart songs like this together with other Christians. I repented for my cold and stony heart toward Him and how special His birth was plus the significance of what He came to do. A truly special night indeed!

My heart was convicted by The Lord that I had missed the part about an overflowing heart in my prayer for this year, so I amended my prayer to ask for an overflowing heart this year that yields such a good thing as praise to The King.

I love this song. It really captures the simplicity of declaring "I believe!" - Sometimes, in our weakness this is all we can do. "I think" doesn't help. "I feel" doesn't help. Even "turning to our spirit" doesn't help. :rolleyes: Belief is the lowest common denominator of our Christian faith. Sometimes I feel like the desperate father in Mark 9: “I believe; help my unbelief!”
