Lord I Lift Your Name on High
Written by Rick Founds 1989
Unto Him posted the Maranatha Singers’ rendition of it today.
LYRICS
Lord I lift your name on high
Lord I love to sing your praises
I'm so glad you are in my life
I'm so glad you came to save us
Lord I lift your name on high
Lord I love to sing your praises
I'm so glad you are in my life
I'm so glad you came to save us
You came from heaven to earth, to show the way
From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay
From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky
Lord I lift your name on high
You came from heaven to earth, to show the way
From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay
From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky
Lord I lift your name on high

Awesome song! Thanks.
Awesome song! Thanks. Yes, thanks goes to Unto Him for linking it as the “Listen Up”.
I had a blinding glimpse of the obvious this morning:
The Song of Songs is a song! And, not a dirge either! Therefore I’m singing and dancing with joy to His Song! Well, duh JJ!
I’m linking a song related to this below.
I’m not sure how after decades of being exposed only to Watchman Nee’s Book on Song of Songs, Witness Lee’s Life Study and Chrystalization Study of it (oft quoted by Blendeds and HWFMR) I missed that :scratchhead:
Hmm.. I’m imagining an LSM training center with a huge banner with one word “LOVE” on it, and crowds of people in ordinary clothes singing the verses of Song of Songs only (no footnotes), dancing with the joy of Jesus then leaving.
His Banner Over Me - David Ruis, Vineyard Worship
Written by David Ruis, Casey Corum, Tori Baker
Lyric Video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CQlB7uDhwj0 unofficial
Words:
He brought me to his banqueting table
(He brought me to his banqueting table)
He brought me to his banqueting table
(He brought me to his banqueting table)
And his banner over me is love
I am my beloved? s and he is mine
(I am my beloved? s and he is mine)
I am my beloved? s and he is mine
(I am my beloved? s and he is mine)
And his banner over me is love
Yes his banner over me is love
We can feel the love of God in this place
We believe your goodness
We receive your grace
We delight ourselves at your table oh God
You do all things well, just look at our lives
And his banner over me is love
Yes his banner over me is love
His banner over you, his banner over me
His banner over us, it is love, love, love
Part 2 of blinding glimpse of the obvious...it’s a love song. Again, well duh, JJ!

I see your face in every sunrise
The colors of the morning are inside your eyes
The world awakens in the light of the day
I look up to the sky and say
You're beautiful
I see your power in the moonlit night
Where planets are in motion and galaxies are bright
We are amazed in the light of the stars
It's all proclaiming who you are
You're beautiful
I see you there hanging on a tree
You bled and then you died and then you rose again for me
Now you are sitting on your heavenly throne
Soon we will be coming home
You're beautiful
When we arrive at eternity's shore
Where death is just a memory and tears are no more
We'll enter in as the wedding bells ring
Your bride will come together and we'll sing
You're beautiful
I see your face, you're beautiful
You're beautiful, you're beautiful
I see your face, you're beautiful
You're beautiful, you're beautiful
All that you are is beautiful
So beautiful, you're beautiful
All that you are is beautiful
You're beautiful, you're beautiful
Lord Jesus, You are beautiful!

Lord I Lift Your Name on High
Written by Rick Founds 1989
Unto Him posted the Maranatha Singers’ rendition of it today.
LYRICS
Lord I lift your name on high
Lord I love to sing your praises
I'm so glad you are in my life
I'm so glad you came to save us
Lord I lift your name on high
Lord I love to sing your praises
I'm so glad you are in my life
I'm so glad you came to save us
You came from heaven to earth, to show the way
From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay
From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky
Lord I lift your name on high
You came from heaven to earth, to show the way
From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay
From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky
Lord I lift your name on high
I was just thinking of this song! (however I change the one line to "You came from heaven to earth to BE the way.")
Here's one somewhat similar that was written here locally and we enjoyed singing this weekend:
Once You came down to earth
Lived me a perfect life and
There on the cross You
Shed Your blood for my sins.
That life raised from the dead
You put inside my heart Lord
It's really something
I believe in You!

Piper wrote about this, it is interesting that you bring up that question.

I personally liked the song when I first heard it. Although it is reckless to claim God is reckless. I’ll continue to assume the author was using poetic license on this one, until I see otherwise.

Thanks for sharing this leastofthese. Looks as though I’m not the only one with a pause on the word “reckless”. Piper picked up on the same concern I have about the word and gives a “workaround” to not get too worked up about it. The words of the rest of the song are great. I don’t care for the singing style, but that’s because I’m old.

Lauren Daigle "You Say"
Lyrics:
1. I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough
Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up
Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?
Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know
[Chorus]
You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
You say I am held when I am falling short
When I don’t belong, oh You say I am Yours
And I believe, oh I believe
What You say of me
I believe
2. The only thing that matters now is everything You think of me
In You I find my worth, in You I find my identity
3. Taking all I have and now I'm laying it at Your feet
You have every failure God, and You'll have every victory

New International Version
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
I just wanted to chime in quickly and add that their explanation is how I interpreted "reckless" the first time I heard it. I have a friend who was called to the scene of a bad accident one time and was so concerned with the people in trouble that he rushed through a chemical spill to get to them, endangering his health in the process. That's how I interpreted it - God's love for us is so great that He was willing to "rush in" and do whatever it took to save us.

In one of the posts a link was provided to a show where a couple of Brothers wrecklessly critiqued the song all because of the word wreckless that was used. They both admitted they were not sure what the true intent of the word expressed was. Yet they chose to wrecklessly assert they're concern which was totally misleading.
I know None of us are perfect, but...

Lyrics:
Walking around these walls
I thought by now they'd fall
But You have never failed me yet
Waiting for change to come
Knowing the battle's won
For You have never failed me yet
Your promise still stands
Great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness
I'm still in Your hands
This is my confidence, You've never failed me yet
I know the night won't last
Your Word will come to pass
My heart will sing Your praise again
Jesus, You're still enough
Keep me within Your love
My heart will sing Your praise again
Your promise still stands
Great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness
I'm still in Your hands
This is my confidence, You never failed
Your promise still stands
Great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness
I'm still in Your hands
This is my confidence, You never failed me yet
I've seen You move, come move the mountains
And I believe, I'll see You do it again
You made a way, where there was no way
And I believe, I'll see You do it again
I've seen You move, come move the mountains
And I believe, I'll see You do it again
You made a way, where there was no way
And I believe, I'll see You do it again
I've seen You move, come move the mountains
And I believe, I'll see You do it again
You made a way, where there was no way
And I believe, I'll see You do it again
I'll see You do it again
Oh-oh
Your promise still stands
Great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness
I'm still in Your hands
This is my confidence, You never failed
Your promise still stands
Great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness
I'm still in Your hands
This is my confidence, You never failed me yet
And You never failed me yet
I never will forget
You never failed me yet
And I never will forget

Great song by Matt Papa was posted as today’s Listen Up
Hymn in C
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VI8583e3JWI
Lyrics:
God of love,
You came to earth
Born in a manger,
the incarnate Word
Full of grace, and full of truth
You healed the leper,
you made all things new
Religion despised your
word of love
Condemned you to die
in your innocence
A crown of thorns
and mockery
Were yours, my savior,
my precious king
Stained with blood,
and bruised with pain
The lamb of God on
a cross of shame
Never before and
never again
Was love so great,
was death so grim
There on the hill you
died for me
You took my sin,
gave me liberty
I'll never boast,
but in your cross
And all my gains,
I now count as loss
When sins, they
rob my heart of joy
And when condemnation
seems to steal even more
This I recall,
You rose again
And I rose with you.
Hallelujah, Amen
If I live in want or
die in shame
To live is you and
to die is gain
I in you and you in me
My God, my brother,
my identity
Were I tempted with
the best of earth
All it's pleasures and
all it's gold
And if fame in
all it's kingdoms
Was in my hands to hold
I'd scorn it all for
you've given me
The treasure of your son
And now I'm richer
than the richest
For you've given me
your love
Thanks for sharing it, Unto Him. It comes at a good time for me.

JJ, there is always a good time for a great hymn or song! This one has always amazed me, considering it was written by Matt Papa, a young man only in his early 30s. I personally love hymns/songs that are rich in theology, and this one may be one of the best in contemporary Christian music.

Showers of Blessings - D.W. Whittle
Song info: https://hymnary.org/text/there_shall_be_showers_of_blessing_this
Lyrics:
There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.
[Chorus]
Showers of blessing,(Showers, showers of blessing)
Showers of blessing we need;
Mercy drops 'round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.
There shall be showers of blessing--
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain. [Chorus]
There shall be showers of blessing:
Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing;
Come and now honor Thy word. [Chorus]
There shall be showers of blessing:
Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we're confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

Isaiah 54:8
"In an outburst of anger I hid My face from you for a moment, But with everlasting lovingkindness I will have compassion on you," Says the LORD your Redeemer.
Isaiah 54:10
"For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, And My covenant of peace will not be shaken," Says the LORD who has compassion on you.
Lamentations 3:22
The LORD'S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail.
Here is Love (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNnQg2zwGsg)
Here is love, vast as the ocean,
Loving-kindness as the flood,
When the Prince of Life, our Ransom,
Shed for us His precious blood.
Who His love will not remember?
Who can cease to sing His praise?
He can never be forgotten,
Throughout heav’n’s eternal days.
On the mount of crucifixion,
Fountains opened deep and wide;
Through the floodgates of God’s mercy
Flowed a vast and gracious tide.
Grace and love, like mighty rivers,
Poured incessant from above,
And heav’n’s peace and perfect justice
Kissed a guilty world in love.
Let me, all Thy love accepting,
Love Thee, ever all my days;
Let me seek Thy kingdom only,
And my life be to Thy praise;
Thou alone shalt be my glory,
Nothing in the world I see;
Thou hast cleansed and sanctified me,
Thou Thyself hast set me free.
In Thy truth Thou dost direct me
By Thy Spirit through Thy Word;
And Thy grace my need is meeting,
As I trust in Thee, my Lord.
Of Thy fullness Thou art pouring
Thy great love and pow’r on me,
Without measure, full and boundless,
Drawing out my heart to Thee.

Jesus said: Blessed are -
The poor in spirit
Those who mourn
The gentle
Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
The merciful
The pure in heart
The peacemakers
Those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness
You when you are insulted, persecuted, and falsely said evil of because of Jesus.

Psalm 91 (Renew Movement)
Psalm 91 Live
By Sons of Korah
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DehkKX2Kn-g
When one examines the 'voice' in the Psalms one can 'mdiscern the Trinity:
Holy Spirit: "He (the Father) commands His Angel's concerning you (the Son), to guard you wherever you may go..."
The Father: "You (the Son) are my Son, this day I (the Father) have begotten you..."
The Son: " I (the Son) come to do your ( the Father) will, behold in the book it is written concerning me ..."
In all, the relation of a human Son on earth with his Father in heaven is the focus. We see faith, obedience, purity on earth, and protection, care, command from heaven. In all, love pervades. To me, every other issue finds its place in this one. Everything (prophets) looks toward it, or (epistles) reflects back on it.
Amen, aron.
I found it interesting that the devil twisted that passage from Psalm 91 to tempt Jesus in the wilderness. And, that Jesus rejects tempting the Lord his God and doesn’t go along with the devil’s suggestion, showing he trusted the Father and fulfilled the whole Psalm (which is about trusting God in all circumstances).
Can you summarize how the law, gospels, Acts, and Revelation fit in the Trinity theme too?
I’ve been linking songs related to passages in Matthew and its cross references recently because the church I attend has been going through it slowly, and my morning readings and prayer/praise time have been basted in that gospel. As songs based in scripture enrich the joy, encouragement, and admonishment found there, I like to link them here.
While doing that yesterday I came upon a singer I wasn’t familiar with before (Jami Smith). I linked one of her songs yesterday. Here is another I like. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m_LbEloLvWY. She and the group of singers she records and tours with have other good ones on You Tube too.
Anyone else have an artist with songs that help bring the awesomeness/truth of God’s word into your life to share with us?

I found it interesting that the devil twisted that passage from Psalm 91 to tempt Jesus in the wilderness. And, that Jesus rejects tempting the Lord his God and doesn’t go along with the devil’s suggestion, showing he trusted the Father and fulfilled the whole Psalm (which is about trusting God in all circumstances). The devil twisted the passage because he was weak - he lost the divine protection and care by his disobedience, and now he tried to get Jesus the man (hungry after 40 days of fasting) to make a move.
Jesus didn't move. "Thy (the Father) word I (the Christ) have hid in my heart, that I (the Christ) might not sin against Thee (the Father)". The relation of the Son to the Father is seen again, and again. Out of the storehouse of treasure in his heart, Jesus spoke the word back to the devil and sent him away. He didn't sin.
In prophetic scripture, the Father promises, and provides, and the Son obeys, and believes, and is rewarded. This is called "the faith of Christ". It is not OUR faith IN Christ but HIS faith IN us. Sorry for the all caps but it's critical to see. Otherwise we erringly focus on ourselves and not on him. It is the faith of Christ, not the faith of the believer. It is his faith. This is why the scripture is key to understand the NT. Look at how the NT uses the OT. Where does Paul or Jesus or Peter call the OT "fallen human concepts"? Nowhere, is where.
Can you summarize how the law, gospels, Acts, and Revelation fit in the Trinity theme too?The law: God promised another Prophet, like Moses. We need to hear him. People were waiting for that Prophet in the gospels. They asked John the Baptist, "Are you the Prophet?" In Acts, when they accused Stephen of overturning Moses, he said that their fathers were disobedient to Moses.
Acts 7:35 “This is the same Moses they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
36 He led them out of Egypt and performed wonders and signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for forty years in the wilderness.
37 “This is the Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.’ 38 He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us.
39 “But our ancestors refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt."
Jesus is the Word that comes forth from God. All things come into being through him. Only he can supplant Moses. The NT argument was, "If you listened to Moses, you would obey Jesus, because Moses said "A prophet God will raise up like me; you must hear him". Deuteronomy 18:15-19

Glorious Unfolding - Steven Curtis Chapman
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GKMjEvF2Fkw
Words:
Lay your head down tonight
Take a rest from the fight
Don’t try to figure it out
Just listen to what i’m whispering to your heart
‘Cause I know this is not
Anything like you thought
The story of your life was gonna be
And it feels like the end has started closing in on you
But it’s just not true
There’s so much of the story that’s still yet to unfold
And this is going to be a glorious unfolding
Just you wait and see and you will be amazed
You’ve just got to believe the story is so far from over
So hold on to every promise god has made to us
And watch this glorious unfolding
God’s plan from the start
For this world and your heart
Has been to show His glory and His grace
Forever revealing the depth and the beauty of
His unfailing love
And the story has only begun
And this is going to be a glorious unfolding
Just you wait and see and you will be amazed
We’ve just got to believe the story is so far from over
So hold on to every promise god has made to us
And watch this glorious unfolding
We were made to run through fields of forever
Singing songs to our savior and king
So let us remember this life we’re living
Is just the beginning of the beginning
Of this glorious unfolding
We will watch and see and we will be amazed
If we just keep on believing the story is so far from over
And hold on to every promise god has made to us
We’ll see the glorious unfolding
Just watch and see (unfolding)
This is just the beginning of the beginning (unfolding)

There is Joy in The Lord
by Cheri Keaggy
All blessing and honor are His
All glory and power are His
Let all wisdom and strength
Be the Lord's in this place
Let all glory be given to Him
There is joy in the Lord
There is love in His Spirit
There is hope in the knowledge of Him
There's a fountain that flows
Like a river from heaven
Abounding in love to my soul
There is joy in the Lord
There is love in His Spirit
There is hope in the knowledge of Him
There's a fountain I know
Ev'ry time I am near it
My heart overflows to the Lord

As I read church history re Easter, it became apparent that Christians began the tradition to celebrate Christ as the fulfillment of the Passover at the same time Jews were celebrating Passover.
So this week is a good time to keep the feast of unleavened bread (sincerely and truth) and celebrate Christ’s death as the lamb of God to save our household from the destroyer and strengthen us for the journey to freedom and our new home in the promised land.

King of Kings | Brooke Ligertwood | Live at Bethel 2019
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o04D93QgxQw
OPENING:
Praise the Father
Praise the Son
Praise the Spirit three in one
God of glory
Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings
VERSE 1:
In the darkness we were waiting
Without hope without light
Till from heaven You came running
There was mercy in Your eyes
To fulfil the law and prophets
To a virgin came the Word
From a throne of endless glory
To a cradle in the dirt
CHORUS:
Praise the Father
Praise the Son
Praise the Spirit three in one
God of glory
Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings
VERSE 2:
To reveal the kingdom coming
And to reconcile the lost
To redeem the whole creation
You did not despise the cross
For even in Your suffering
You saw to the other side
Knowing this was our salvation
Jesus for our sake You died
VERSE 3:
And the morning that You rose
All of heaven held its breath
Till that stone was moved for good
For the Lamb had conquered death
And the dead rose from their tombs
And the angels stood in awe
For the souls of all who’d come
To the Father are restored
VERSE 4:
And the Church of Christ was born
Then the Spirit lit the flame
Now this gospel truth of old
Shall not kneel shall not faint
By His blood and in His Name
In His freedom I am free
For the love of Jesus Christ
Who has resurrected me

Sons to Glory!
09-17-2019, 10:00 AM
In my morning meditation I had this song come up in me and really enjoyed singing it - loudly! (I think I'll see if the Thursday breakfast bros can sing it this week!)
Praise the Lord God Sent His Son - Hallelujah! (https://soundcloud.com/hymnstream/praise-the-lord-god-sent-his)
1. Praise the Lord, God sent His Son,
Hallelujah!
And salvation’s work was done,
Glory to God!
God Himself became a man,
So that we might live in Him.
Chorus:
That’s why I call on Him,
I give my all to Him.
2. For us He was crucified,
Hallelujah!
For the many, one Man died,
Glory to God!
One grain fell into the earth,
Many grains to bring to birth.
3. He arose in victory,
Hallelujah!
From the grave, triumphantly,
Glory to God!
Now in resurrection He
As the Spirit lives in me.
4. Call on Him from deep within,
Hallelujah!
Just by calling, He comes in,
Glory to God!
Once you call upon His name,
Nevermore you’ll be the same.
Final Chorus:
We all must call on Him,
We give our all to Him.

StG,
I remember this song vividly. It was one of the many that were set to "worldly" tunes. At some point "the brothers" in So.Calif. decided that it was not so appropriate for spiritual songs to be song to worldly tunes. Later, we found out that some complaints came in from persons/companies that held the copyright to those tunes.
Here is another song from those "supplemental" days:

How about this one: https://soundcloud.com/hymnstream/im-walking-down-the-road (https://soundcloud.com/hymnstream/im-walking-down-the-road)
I’m walking down the road
That leads to glory.
I’m pressing toward the mark
By enjoying God!
I don’t know so much,
Just to love Him.
I’m walking down the road,
Glory, here I come.
1
With the brothers and the sisters,
We enjoy Him day by day.
It’s so simple and easy,
Our worries flee away.
Now we’re growing together,
As one big family,
Abiding in the joy of the Lord.
2
We enjoy You, Lord Jesus,
In our experience.
We’re getting to know You—
It’s making us leap and dance.
Just eating and drinking,
It’s what we do the best,
Delighting in the love of the Lord.
3
We’re walking, not running,
Cause we’re in the pasture land.
Our Shepherd is nearby,
We’re trusting in His hand.
He’s everything to us,
He’s all we ever need,
Resting in the peace of the Lord.

In Tenderness by citizens, today’s Listen Up, is testament to Jesus’ saving power coming through to save some in this generation, and their joining in His praise. Eternal message is the gospel.
I heard a powerful message that referred to Psalm 125 this weekend. The words of the Psalm were so reassuring to me, and challenging. I looked for a song on it and found a Christian singer I hadn’t heard of before. Sharing it here. I hope you like it.

Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus -
Psalm 150 Productions
Author: Louisa M.R. Stead (1882)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-DdgkvnsHjM
Words:
1 'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
and to take him at his word;
just to rest upon his promise,
and to know, "Thus saith the Lord."
Refrain:
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him!
How I've proved him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust him more!
2 O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
just to trust his cleansing blood;
and in simple faith to plunge me
neath the healing, cleansing flood! [Refrain]
3 Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
just from sin and self to cease;
just from Jesus simply taking
life and rest, and joy and peace. [Refrain]

Sons to Glory!

I'm curious about who wrote the words to this? Someone handed it out at Sunday's gathering and we sang it.
My old man has been crucified with Him,
With all its foul corruption deep within;
And buried too its nature serpentine,
Completely finished—this great fact is mine,
I hold it fast.
But there's a Person in my spirit now,
Born as a babe so small, so weak, so low;
Who by the Word's pure milk will grow to be
The overcoming inner man in me
To gain my heart.
Christ as my Person must possess my heart
And be preeminent in every part.
The former owner died but haunts it still.
O Lord, move in; my mind, emotion, will
Now welcome Thee.
In spirit mingled, we are one, O Lord,
The human and divine in one accord;
Yet Thou must have a proper faculty
That all Thy glorious personality
May be expressed.
So, Lord, I give my heart to Thee today,
That it may be Thy home in every way,
A place for Thee to come and settle down,
And all Thy grand recovery work to crown
In one new man.

Here is a version sung by the "Long Beach Trainees".

I'm assuming this was part of the original "Supplement", which was a collection of hymns, songs and arranged Psalms produced in the early to mid 70s. Many of these supplemental songs were basically Witness Lee's teachings set to music. Sometimes they were set to secular contemporary music. To my recollection, none of the authors were listed, although it was common knowledge that a number of these supplemental songs were written by the late Howard Hagashi.
At some point, a number of these early supplemental songs were incorporated into a newer version of the Local Church hymnal. I am not sure if this particular song was in the original supplement or not.
-
Thanks for sharing some about “The Supplement”. When I started meeting with TLR in late 1978, The Supplement already existed and was used, but it fell out of favor vs “Hymns” for the better part of a decade as Witness Lee spoke against some of its songs after Max Rappaport exited; but many of its songs were added to the back of Hymns by the mid-1980’s and gradually saw increased use in meetings again.
I recall that Dan Toule (spelling?), then an elder in Fullerton, had penned a song or two (maybe more) that took popular hymns and altered them to fit things Witness Lee had spoken “How Small Thou Art” from “How Great Thou Art” comes to mind.
Any other LC “old timers” care to add more?

Pursuant to the "My old man has been crucified with Him" song, this morning I noticed something. It starts with my old man's crucifixion, and ends with the "one new man.' I hadn't that noticed before. He crucifies the old that we could be made part of the new man! (and to hearken to another old song - "for with time there is the process . . .")

Mary did you know? Yes, Mary knew exactly what was going on, and praised God for it.
Mary did you know? Yes, Mary knew exactly what was going on, and praised God for it.Yes and No.
I realize this thread is not really for discussion, but as we are in the final days of advent leading up to the celebration of the incarnation of the Word, it seems appropriate — at least a little.
Mary knew. But was continually learning what it meant. She knew he was the coming Messiah. But did she know that that meant? Not a king for an earthly throne, but a martyr to make a spiritual home in his people?
This was a dark point in history. The light was coming, but was not yet seen. Mary had hope, not certainty of knowledge.
The shepherds got a show of light and sound, and they went to Bethlehem to see. But then saw nothing more for at least 30 years afterward.
The town of Bethlehem was mostly unaware. Jerusalem, just a few miles away was clueless. It wasn't until the magi arrived some time later that anyone in Jerusalem finally got a clue, but still did not go to see.
While Mary was eventually part of the group of women following on his journeys, it does not appear that it was always so. She didn't understand his Father's calling when he was 12, and was somewhat chastised many years later when she and some of his brothers came to see him during his ministry travels.
Even the disciples who were with him for virtually his whole ministry still did not get it when the soldiers came in the garden and carried him away to be crucified.
The real knowing did not start until the morning of the resurrection. First with the women and then with some of the disciples. Then the two on the road to Emmaus. Then a closed room full. Eventually a few hundred in all.
Then the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. At that point, they knew. So much began to fall into place during those few days before he ascended from their sight.
We are the beneficiaries of a young girl who had enough faith to undertake a task she did not fully understand that would change the course of history. While not as the RCC does it, her name should be forever blessed.
I realize this has been around since 2008 (and the text since about 1863-64) but it only came to my attention a couple of years ago. But it was not just the sound, or the effect of a redo of an old poem/song that caught my attention, but the story behind the poem and the manner in which this new tune brought it out.
Over the course of just over two years, his wife was severely burned and died when her favorite dress caught fire in 1861, followed in late 1863 when his son who despite forbidding him to join the Union army was wounded. As the man went to the train station to collect his wounded son in late December and saw a friend there to collect a coffin with his.
In the next months, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow would write the poem “Christmas Bells” recalling the darkness in which he found himself as he heard church bells ringing as he went to the station that day. The poem seems more dark than light with verses (never sung) that speak too graphicly of the war that was going on.
Yet in the midst of it, there is “peace on earth.”
Over the years, the traditional song “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” doesn’t seem to do the underlying text justice. But the recent rendition by Casting Crowns has seemed to capture some of the juxtaposition of darkness and light that is woven through the poem. Like “Breath of Heaven,” and “Mary, Did You Know,” this song casts off the presumption of cheer and frivolity to bring us to the mostly unannounced birth of a baby in the midst of dark times. A promise of a kingdom of peace yet to be realized.

Right, it seems that Mary knew, but like us, she and Joseph were slow on the uptake, and until the complete ministry of their son unfolded and after His death and resurrection and the Holy Spirit was poured out it became crystal clear.
Here are “the puzzle pieces Mary and Joseph were given (verses copied from Berean Study Bible):
Angel Gabriel:
Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never end!”
The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.
Elizabeth:
why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Gabriel to Joseph: Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.
Shepherds:
And there were shepherds residing in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks by night. Just then, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! For behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today in the City of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord! And this will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there appeared with the angel a great multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying:
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men
on whom His favor rests!”
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and the Baby, who was lying in the manger. After they had seen the Child, they spread the message they had received about Him. And all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
Simeon:
Now there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. Ledby the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. And when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for Him what was customary under the Law, Simeon took Him in his arms and praised God, saying:
“Sovereign Lord, as You have promised,
You now dismiss Your servant in peace.
For my eyes have seen Your salvation,
which You have prepared in the sight of all people,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and for glory to Your people Israel.”
The Child’s father and mother were amazed at what was spoken about Him. Then Simeon blessed them and said to His mother Mary:
“Behold, this Child is appointed to cause
the rise and fall of many in Israel,
and to be a sign that will be spoken against,
so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed—
and a sword will pierce your soul as well.”
Anna:
There was also a prophetess named Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, who was well along in years. She had been married for seven years, and then was a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.
Coming forward at that moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the Child to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
The Boy Jesus:
Every year His parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. And when He was twelve years old, they went up according to the custom of the Feast.
When those days were over and they were returning home, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but His parents were unaware He had stayed. Assuming He was in their company, they traveled on for a day before they began to look for Him among their relatives and friends.
When they could not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for Him. Finally, after three days they found Him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astounded at His understanding and His answers.
When His parents saw Him, they were astonished. “Child, why have You done this to us?” His mother asked. “Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You.”
“Whywere you looking for Me?” He asked. “Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s houseg ?” But they did not understand the statement He was making to them.
Then He went down to Nazareth with them and was subject to them. But His mother treasured up all these things in her heart.
And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
So Mary knew the upside prophecies. That would leave a lot unknown.
Not saying that the rest is "downside," but that the whole "lamb of God" side of the equation, coupled with no overthrow of the Romans did not figure into their understanding. And all of that played out in what was likely a painful way (from Mary's perspective).
I realize this has been around since 2008 (and the text since about 1863-64) but it only came to my attention a couple of years ago. But it was not just the sound, or the effect of a redo of an old poem/song that caught my attention, but the story behind the poem and the manner in which this new tune brought it out.

I Heard the Bells (Peace on Earth) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK8xB1opuQ8)
Yes, knowing the back story of the song totally changes the understanding and appreciation for this song. And, Casting Crowns version captures Longfellow’s view of it well.
Thanks for sharing both the song and its backstory.
Yes, it is doubtful Mary would have known how Jesus would save his people from their sins or what a light for revelation to the gentiles would involve. And certainly she wouldn’t have known that it would take over 2000 years to see Israel ruled by its Christ in a manifest way (overthrow its Roman rulers).
And hearing the words “a sword will pierce your soul” can’t compare to the reality of watching her son be arrested, falsely accused, tried and found guilty of death by her Jewish leaders and oppressive government, brutally beaten and whipped with a cat of nine tails, mocked, crucified, and placed into a tomb.
As I read the words of Mary Did You Know?https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/pentatonix/marydidyouknow.html, she would have known most of the things, but certainly not all of what the song asks.

Sons to Glory!
12-25-2019, 07:40 AM
Had this song come up in me this morning. (to the tune of "Where have all the Flowers Gone?")
Praise the Lord God sent His Son!
Hallelujah!
And salvations work was done!
Glory to God!
One grain fell into the earth -
Many sons to bring to birth!
That's why I call on Him!
I give my all to Him!

Yes, Praise the Lord God sent His Son!
That’s one of those old Supplement songs :yep: I remember singing it too. Then it was banished, then brought back.
Today it’s in hymnal.net here https://www.hymnal.net/en/hymn/ns/79
Anyone know who actually penned this? It obviously was influenced by Witness Lee’s Ministry.
Sons to Glory!

Don't know who wrote it. Someone brought it up at a gathering in Scottsdale recently and we sang it (that's why it's fresh in me). Is this something that could be sang by Christians everywhere, or do you think there a "taint" to it?
Here are the full lyrics:
Praise the Lord, God sent His Son,
Hallelujah!
And salvation's work was done,
Glory to God!
God Himself became a man,
So that we might live in Him.
That's why I call on Him,
I give my all to Him.
For us He was crucified,
Hallelujah!
For the many, one Man died,
Glory to God!
One grain fell into the earth,
Many grains to bring to birth.
That's why I call on Him,
I give my all to Him.
He arose in victory,
Hallelujah!
From the grave, triumphantly,
Glory to God!
Now in resurrection He
As the Spirit lives in me.
That's why I call on Him,
I give my all to Him.
Call on Him from deep within,
Hallelujah!
Just by calling, He comes in,
Glory to God!
Once you call upon His name,
Nevermore you'll be the same.
We all must call on Him,
We give our all to Him.
STG: Is this something that could be sang by Christians everywhere, or do you think there a "taint" to it?
I like most who frequent these boards have a “once bitten twice shy” attitude toward all things LSM retains copyright on.
I like the song. Two things that caught my eye “He as the Spirit....” and “we all must call on him”.
The first is based on Lee’s processed God teaching where Christ becomes The Spirit which is debatable. The second includes “must” another word oft-used by Lee and smacks of violating our choice and sadly reminds me of mindless chanting sessions in local church meetings.
I would love to make some edits to this song (and others in LSM’s Hymns and hymnal.net) to replace non-scriptural phrases like these with scriptural phrases. But I’d need to get LSM’s permission. Something I haven’t wanted to take on.

Revelation 21:5 https://biblehub.com/blb/revelation/21.htm
This New Year I am more grateful than ever for the hope of glory that comes in our Lord Jesus Christ.
40 days ago I lay flat on my back in a freezing cold operating room as a brain surgeon and his team with all of their high tech surgical equipment readied themselves to anethesize me, and do the rather barbaric, but life prolonging, task of removing a brain tumor from my head. Tonight the tumor is gone (except microscopic pieces not possible to remove) my head is healed up, and I feel better than the day before that. In the month before and since my wife and I were girded up by faith in Jesus, the power of The Holy Spirit and by the encouraging words and prayers of over 100 Christians we know from many different cities, including some of you who knew.
That was the end of 2019. An amazing thing to be so grateful for. Praise Him for another year to spread His renown, expect, and hasten His return when He will truly make all things new, just like He does every day from within now.
Looking forward to 2020 with y’all. My friends.

OBW (from The Bible as the Absolute Authority thread):
“ I always like Psalm 19.
‘The heavens are telling the glory of God.’
Sang that in a choir back in high school. ("The Creation" by Hyden)
So not only does the Bible reveal God, but the very heavens do the same without words. And Paul underscores this in Romans. We all know something of God because of what is seen around us. We may dismiss it as simply "
natural," but it is there.”
Great lead OBW!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf9ed6qwlaI
Lyrics:
Verse 1
Shame is a prison as cruel as a grave
Shame is a robber and he’s come to take my name
Love is my redeemer lifting me up from the ground
Love is the power where my freedom song is found
Chorus
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down
When I hear that trumpet sound, I’m gonna rise up out of the ground
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down
Verse 2
Fear is a liar with a smooth and velvet tongue
Fear is a tyrant, he’s always telling me to run
Love is resurrection and love is a trumpet sound
Love is my weapon, I’m gonna take my giants down
Verse 3
There was a battle, a war between death and life
There on a tree the Lamb of God was crucified
He went on down to hell, He took back every key
He rose up as a lion and He’s setting all the captives free
Chorus 2
There ain’t no grave could hold His body down
There ain’t no grave could hold His body down
When He heard the trumpet sound, He rose up out of the ground
There ain’t no grave could hold His body down
There ain’t no grave could hold His body down

Music as a vehicle for God's word is a powerful thing. It was happening in the LC 40 years ago, especially with the Psalms, and WL shut it down.

“Christ Our Hope in Life and Death
What is our hope in life and death?
Christ alone, Christ alone.
What is our only confidence?
That our souls to him belong.
Who holds our days within his hand?
What comes, apart from his command?
And what will keep us to the end?
The love of Christ, in which we stand.
O sing hallelujah!
Our hope springs eternal;
O sing hallelujah!
Now and ever we confess
Christ our hope in life and death.
What truth can calm the troubled soul?
God is good, God is good.
Where is his grace and goodness known?
In our great Redeemer’s blood.
Who holds our faith when fears arise?
Who stands above the stormy trial?
Who sends the waves that bring us nigh
Unto the shore, the rock of Christ?
Unto the grave, what shall we sing?
“Christ, he lives; Christ, he lives!”
And what reward will heaven bring?
Everlasting life with him.
There we will rise to meet the Lord,
Then sin and death will be destroyed,
And we will feast in endless joy,
When Christ is ours forevermore.

Amazing grace! (how sweet the sound)
Author: John Newton (1779)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3o8b9LjxF0M
Sung by Darlene Zschech
Original Lyrics (rarely fully used)
1 Amazing grace (how sweet the sound)
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.
2 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed!
3 Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come:
'tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.
4 The Lord has promised good to me,
his word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be
as long as life endures.
5 Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease:
I shall possess, within the veil,
a life of joy and peace.
6 The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
the sun forbear to shine;
but God, who called me here below,
will be forever mine.

Lyrics
1. O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!
Refrain:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
2. Thro' death into life everlasting,
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion--
For more than conqu’rors we are!
3. His Word shall not fail you--He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

C.S. Lewis: “God in the Psalms is the “all-satisfying Object.” His people adore him unashamedly for the “exceeding joy” they find in him (Psalm 43:4). He is the source of complete and unending pleasure: “In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures-forevermore” (Psalm 16:11).”

I tempered the storm
Though your faith was small
I prayed while you slept
And the night waged war
We stood in the fire
And we walked on sea
And we drank of the wine
That was made of Me
Don't turn your eyes from Me
For My love won't be undone
Don't hide your face from Me
For My light has surely come
Surely come surely come
I carried that cross
And I felt your pain
I took up your crown
And I wore your shame
And death was a fire
And its teeth were grim
But I left it behind
Along with all your sin
Don't turn away from Me
For My love won't be undone
Don't hide your face from Me
For My light has surely come
Surely Come surely come
Lift up your eyes and see
Heaven is closer than you know
Lift up your voice and sing
Know that My love won't let you go
And I won't forsake you
Lift up your eyes and see
Heaven is closer than you know
Know I'll never leave you
So lift up your voice and sing
Know that My love won't let you go
And My light has surely come
Surely come surely come
And I'm closer than you know
And I'm closer than you know
Lord I hear You I know You're there
Closer now than my skin and bones could dare
Breathing deep within me
You are always with me
I can see You where eyes can't stare
Brighter now than the sun could ever dare
Breathing all around me
God I know You're with me here
Lord I hear You I know You're there
Closer now than my skin and bones could dare
Breathing deep within me
You are always with me
I can see You where eyes can't stare
Brighter now than the sun could ever dare
Breathing all around me

You are here
You are here
