& now for the rest of the story..... While in the car..playing this CD "God He Reigns' by Hillsong..as I get to this song, The Glory of GOD, the Holy Spirit falls on me very, very strong, I had to pull over. I was close to a shopping center & that is where I pulled over.

Honestly, I don't recall having the Presence of the LORD 'hit me' like that. I was 'drunk in the Spirit'..and about 1/2 hr later, it lifted.

Dear Ones,

I have had very similar experiences to countmeworthy while listening to the very CDs you are referring to. In Raleigh we love to sing the new comterporary songs and the old traditional hymns and old LC supplement tunes. Often some get together just to sing and sing and sing. They let me join in as a joyful noise.

I will find out how to post some of the songs of praise and thanksgiving that our local saints have written. I am sure they will be a supply.

Another blessed and Anointed Christian musician is Fernando Ortega.

I will attempt to insert youtubes here to watch and listen to him play his piano unto the Lord. God truly uses this man to bring us into the Presence of the King. His music is very moving and soothing. I like to go to sleep listening to his cds. Of course, it takes me a lot longer to fall asleep as I end up Praising and Worshipping the Lord before I finally fall asleep.

Listening to the song made me think specifically of two brothers Ransford Ackah and Francis Ball who had passed away within the last 5 years. Each had maintained their vision. One had parted ways with Living Stream while one continued as a locality elder and FTTA trainer.
Each of these two brothers were co-workers in San Bernardino when I was a high school brother. I was distraught how their passing was received so differently. If we say we are the Body, however the measure of our love fluctuates whether or not we're meeting with the recovery?
It's easy to say we love all members of the Body, but when our actions illustrate a contradiction.....what says ye?

The songs from the saints in the LC are to me some of the most beautiful, encouraging and Christ-centered music I have enjoyed. I still have the Divine Romance CD and enjoy many of Howard's deep, heart-felt songs. I continue to enjoy the NYCYPCD and purchase any new one that comes out. They have helped me through many a difficult time. We used to sing and worship the Lord like this all the time in every meeting. We were always so in love with Him and could always sense His love for us. I wonder my brother do the saints still sing like this in the meetings of the church?

Between 2005 and 2015 in California the hymnal (changed little since mid- 1980's) was used at the Sunday meeting. The saints tend to repeat the lines from it as if they were scripture now. A song book with selections from the hymnal and songs composed by local church saints was used in home and campus meetings. Both have many good songs for worshipping the Lord, but contain elements of worshipping "the Church Life" or the church too. The joy of the Lord and outpouring of the Spirit during singing (and everything else) seemed greatly diminished versus late 70's and early 80's to me.

The first is one of my all time favorite hymns. I found the second while searching the internet for it.

Both are great songs, that agree on who our songs should glorify... Jesus

They present an interesting contrast in presentation styles and highlight the Living Stream Ministry's and Witness Lee's aversion to "worldly music". I recall that was one of his main concerns about spiritual music.

Given the Bible's clear warnings about not loving the world, and friendship with the world being enmity with God, I understand the concern.

I did a Bible word search on the word "world" and find the main concerns about the world being:

a) wisdom of men that exalt themselves and their thinking above God's
b) material possessions becoming what we live for and rely on versus God
c) lust of the flesh
d) reliance on doing the law versus the Spirit by faith
e) lust of the eyes
f) pride of life

Are any of these in either song? No

Ortega does a lot of older hymns in exceptional ways. Many great for worship. And even the ones that aren't are still great songs, just not necessarily for worship. I have a hard time selecting the best, but Come Thou Fount, is neat the top.

I do like them. But they are so hard to remember because even the "traditional" services tend toward collections that they rotate through.

But one thing about older hymns is that they tend to be more focused on content than on melody. I like melodies, and I like harmony. But without worthy texts, they might as well be instrumentals played as people pray or they "pass the plate."

But the best ones often seem to be less catchy musically but more solid in theology and the emotion of worship (not just the emotions). I like songs that are thoughtful. Even contemplative. (I know that term has taken a beating in some circles recently.) Where I attend, the bulletin has in insert for the traditional service laying out all the songs, scripture that will be read, etc. I take that insert and often go home, get out my guitar, and try to simplify one of more of the hymns down to something I can play and is still pleasing for singing or reading. At some level, my notions for doing this are beyond my time, patience, and musical ability, but I keep thinking that "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" in the same service as "You'll Come," along with two or three times through a short chorus (words by David, tune by I can't remember who) of:

It was hard not to listen to one of the others nearby on the page. I started one and was greeted by a stringing of LCM catchphrases. By the end of about 4 lines there had been mention of God's economy (so glorious), consummated, God's eternal purpose . . . . I just couldn't help but kill it then and there. A smorgasbord of Leeology. Shot-gunning every high-sounding phrase they had in their arsenal. It would have made me laugh if it had not made me so ill.

And unlike the one JJ linked (which is at least mostly a regular hymn with no video), this one had pretty scenery scrolling words along with the choir (despite being called Karaoke).

I know this thread is about music we like. But so much of the LCM music was, and is, about catching people who think that simple and focused is poor and theologically (or Leeologically) jam-packed is what worship and singing is all about. Impress everyone with the depth of your theology.

Nothing trite like care for the dying, or Lord have mercy on me. Not even as low as the gospel of salvation. It must be nearly unable to contain the amount of stuff that can be crammed-in.

Since I posted the link to Christ is Victor, I've reflected on how Christ displayed His victory. Even that is somewhat mysterious, and not "showing off".

He leaves his linen cloth and head wrap folded in the tomb. Two angels in bright clothing tell the disciples he has been raised like he told them, go to Galilee, he will meet you there.

He is seen by Mary Magdelene, she thinks he is the Gardener, and He says "don't touch me, I go to the Father".

He appears to two disciples on the road to Emmaus and talks to them about his crucifixion and the news of his resurrection, but they don't recognize him until he breaks bread with them. But, while he was expounding the scripture to them their hearts were burning within them.

He pops into two gatherings of the disciples who are in an enclosed room. He shows them the nail marks in his hands and mark in his side. He gives doubting Thomas and all believers to follow a lesson in faith.

He breathes into them and says, "receive the Holy Spirit".

Over the course of 40 days he teaches the disciples about the kingdom of God. But they want to know if he is restoring the kingdom to Israel then.

He gives the fisherman a "fishing by obedience lesson".

He tells them to wait in Jerusalem, until the promise of the Father, the Holy Spirit comes upon them.

Then he ascends into heaven to the Father's side, while an angel tells the disciples he will return the same way he left.

Then he advocates for them at the Father's side while the Holy Spirit testifies concerning Him and convicts the world of sin and righteousness.

Paul said Jesus stripped off the ordinances, making an open display of them.

The Holy Spirit descends upon the gathered church and empowers the disciples to announce the resurrection of Christ and salvation in Jesus. Some think they are drunk. Many believe and others scoff.

The rulers of the Jews and Rome tried to kill this movement, but the more they tried the more it spread.

The more they killed the Christians, the more people were captured in His victory train.

I love that you bring some musical ability into the discussion.

I'm adding quote from Lamentations 3:22-24 that inspired the poet who first penned Great is Thy Faithfulness. As it inspires me when I'm tempted to get discouraged (which is often):

I don't have reference to the Sara Groves song at the moment, but I recall both the intro's "hints" and the interlude a little. I think the Groves song has three verses. In any case, my initial thought was to insert the first verse of "Great is Thy Faithfulness" before the last verse of Grove's song, but right after "thy compassions, they fail not" end the verse with "He's always been faithful to me," then go on to the last verse and repeat the last line as follows:

He's always been faithful . . .
Great is thy faithfulness . . .
He's always been faithful to me

It's just a sketch in my mind. The ending is intended to juxtapose the softening and contemplative ending of the new song with the somewhat oratorical effect of the line from the original. Our contrition and awe set up against the majesty of God.

If I really wanted to do something with it, I would probably work with a true musician who would have additional suggestions (or tell me it just doesn't work). And give it a sufficient score to set out the parts and a rough piano accompaniment.

But several years ago, the music leader at the church I was attending eliminated the chorus, using the pre-chorus as the only chorus, and turned-down the tempo and intensity. Slightly altered the chords to include a couple of minors and you hardly realize it is the same song. And it is a positive change.

This link has several videos. One of them has become damaged (Praise to the Lord, the Almighty) and is only about half there. There are also a couple that were from a separate Thursday night modern worship venue that was hosted by the church but organized by others (although some of the "locals" were involved). Those are the "Mezzanine Floor" videos.

The list includes the Beautiful One and Revelation Song/Holy, Holy, Holy. There is also an original, "Kyrie (Lord Have Mercy)" that I have come to really appreciate. I never heard it live but only on the video.

Ignoring the more raucous Mezzanine Floor videos, you get a little glimpse of some recent history of worship that has influenced my thinking. And I am not saying I don't like the Mezzanine Floor stuff. Just not sure that it is always right for corporate worship — at least in the sense of the primary gatherings.

Regarding the doxology, I always thought it was weird to sing the words "Holy Ghost".. Sounds scary. I understand that's the translation they had in the 1600's. Perhaps this could use some musicianship to update it to something we can relate to better.

The videos were not really important. If you notice, the band is not making a show. The recording is simply being made from a camera and a microphone in the sound booth area (not directly off the sound board) and there is clearly something in the lighting that is not picked-up right by the camera.

As for the older wording, such as ghost v spirit, I often agree. But once you start, where do you stop? Get rid of every "thee," "thou," "art," etc. at the cost of the rhyming? Again, I think that sometimes it works well. And sometimes it doesn't. And sometimes you cause people to be lost in paying attention to which word to use rather than the meaning of the song.

I know that is the reason that some of the modern versions have completely different tunes. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Yet younger ones often like the newer versions simply because they are newer. As if that is the reason something is good. Same goes for liking the old hymns just because that is the way Paul and Silas did it. (Like when people jokingly say that KJV was good enough for Paul and Silas . . . .).

Frederick Lehman tells us that verse 3 “had been found penciled on the wall of a patient’s room in an insane asylum after he had been carried to his grave.” While it is only supposition that he was the one who adapted the Jewish author’s poem to leave us these well-known lines, if the account is true it shows in any case that he highly esteemed the message.

I was reading back through this thread and noted that at one point I started talking about "How Great Thou Are" when I obviously meant "Great is thy Faithfulness.

But I was also thinking about the other thing that is becoming larger in my thoughts lately . . . .

There are a lot of good Christian songs of all kinds. But not all are worship songs in the sense of corporate worship. Yet there is a tendency in some circles to not differentiate.

When it comes to worship time, it is mostly about Him. Less about me. Even less about the church. Not saying I disappear entirely. But much less.

That Sara Groves song that I mentioned in those earlier emails is not really corporate worship music. As special music (choir or solo, maybe), but not general congregational singing. But I still like it.

Oddly, I place "10,000 Reasons" somewhere near the break between regular worship and all other good Christian songs. The "story" seems to revolve around "me" but only in that it describes God as being the center of everything. So "bless the Lord, Oh my soul" is really solid.

Of course, to include the gospel, there is an aspect in which "I" the sinner will always be a part.

But I have less "good feeling" toward the pining for glory songs. And "I'll Fly Away" types. To much about me and my woes. I've got them. But that does not mean that songs of the life to come or mourning over loss are verboten. But they have specific places (in my worship-ology).

And I fail to mention that songs that are truly prayers are generally good (if they are generally good, if you get my drift). Doesn't matter how "me" or "we" those get. How much we need a good "Lord have mercy on me" — in song or in prayer (or both combined).

If I am not repeating myself (and if I am not repeating myself (and . . .)) there is a pretty good song recently by Mercy Me. Overall a great song. But there is one thing that really bugs me. The chorus effectively says "greater is the one living inside of me than he who is living in the world." Absolutely great. But then they stop and sing "In the woooorrrrld" all drawn out two or three times before repeating the whole phrase again.

And it is so upbeat.

Why does "in the world" get emphasized so strongly in a "makes you wanna dance" kind of upbeat way? I think they messed up (IMHO).

While style is partly a matter of taste and partly a matter of what fits the lyrics, I have tended toward more a more contemplative feel lately. There are surely times to be bombastic. But even those can sometimes be turned down. And slowed down. Give us some more time and less distraction as we consider what we are singing.

(I notice that no one is asking me to be worship leader anywhere.)

I'm glad you get to sing and hear these traditional hymns, Indiana. Many of them are not played very often in churches that have "contemporary worship". I fear that's a loss for the next generation.

I agree that the best worship songs are those that focus on Him versus us.

Peter walked on water when he was looking at Jesus, but began to sink the second he looked at himself. That's a good lesson for us.

The songs I post here are those that focus on Him and are based on scripture, the two main factors I look for.

Now here's where is gets weird (to me, as a former member of TLC beginning in 1978).

I learned by internet search that Mary E. McDonough wrote a book called "God's Plan of Redemption" that is filled with teachings concerning the tripartite man (uses the three circle diagram) and God's work to transform Christians into His image and glorious bride that are amazingly similar to Witness Lee's teachings I learned in the late 1970's - 1980's. Here is a web site that talks about the tripartite man and Mary E. McDonough's (and others') teaching concerning it.

Now maybe some former members of TLC from the early 1960's can enlighten me about the relationship between Mary E. McDonough, Watchman Nee, and Witness Lee. Because there is a lot of copying of content going on here, and I'm not sure how this all came about. Nor do I know why Mary's hymn is now copywrited by LSM.

To be fair. I do remember Witness Lee mentioning the other authors mentioned on the site, saying his teachings were built on what they had seen (he often said he "stood on their shoulders" and saw further). I don't remember anything about this Mary E. McDonough though.

Now why is this important? Because I had no idea how similar Witness Lee's teachings were to hers, and of course I gave Watchman Nee and Witness Lee the credit for them (because I didn't know). And, I'll bet many others did the same.

I remember singing this song as a young man years ago. I do not know/remember if I ever sang it in a LC meeting in the 40 years of attending. I heard it the other day and it spoke to me of a simple touch with the Lord, something I need more than not. Eventually I changed "Love lifted me" to "Christ lifted me" and it became as rich. Love and Christ lifted me. I enjoyed this song, one from a timeless simpler time.

Another song I liked from my youth. I do not believe I have sang this song in a church meeting for at least 30 years. I recall Ed Marks calling this hymn in a winter training meeting back in the 1980's (I think). When Brother Lee took the podium he asked him why he called a "Christmas song" to sing (in December) and had a few more words to add to it. I don't recall if Ed had an answer or not, but WL sent a clear message throughout the recovery to don’t do that, humiliating EM in the process. Nevertheless, this is still one of my favorite hymns. It was written in 1739 by Charles Wesley.

Now here's where is gets weird (to me, as a former member of TLC beginning in 1978).

I learned by internet search that Mary E. McDonough wrote a book called "God's Plan of Redemption" that is filled with teachings concerning the tripartite man (uses the three circle diagram) and God's work to transform Christians into His image and glorious bride that are amazingly similar to Witness Lee's teachings I learned in the late 1970's - 1980's. Here is a web site that talks about the tripartite man and Mary E. McDonough's (and others') teaching concerning it.

Now maybe some former members of TLC from the early 1960's can enlighten me about the relationship between Mary E. McDonough, Watchman Nee, and Witness Lee. Because there is a lot of copying of content going on here, and I'm not sure how this all came about. Nor do I know why Mary's hymn is now copywrited by LSM.

To be fair. I do remember Witness Lee mentioning the other authors mentioned on the site, saying his teachings were built on what they had seen (he often said he "stood on their shoulders" and saw further). I don't remember anything about this Mary E. McDonough though.

Now why is this important? Because I had no idea how similar Witness Lee's teachings were to hers, and of course I gave Watchman Nee and Witness Lee the credit for them (because I didn't know). And, I'll bet many others did the same.

I note that T.A. Sparks quoted "There's a Man in The Glory" Hymn Word for word in a message he gave, without naming the author.

They are very eclectic in their selections - all the way from "Old Time Gospel Hour" selections (usually not my cup of tea) all the way to some pretty "rockish" stuff (usually not my cup of tea either) - but it's the 90% of selections in between that are so glorious and uplifting. It really brings out the truth that God wants to be so much more than just "building material" for the visible church, or any institute of man. He cares about us as individuals.

Thanks again for you're valuable contribution to our little forum, especially for your song/hymn references. Christian music has been a great help and joy in my "recovery from the Recovery", which is still an ongoing process after 20+ years. I also enjoy Christian radio immensely. Sure, there is a lot of junk out there, but if you find the right station it can be a source of great joy and edification.

Thanks for sharing this leastofthese. Looks as though I’m not the only one with a pause on the word “reckless”. Piper picked up on the same concern I have about the word and gives a “workaround” to not get too worked up about it. The words of the rest of the song are great. I don’t care for the singing style, but that’s because I’m old.

I have a friend who was called to the scene of a bad accident one time and was so concerned with the people in trouble that he rushed through a chemical spill to get to them, endangering his health in the process. That's how I interpreted it - God's love for us is so great that He was willing to "rush in" and do whatever it took to save us.

In one of the posts a link was provided to a show where a couple of Brothers wrecklessly critiqued the song all because of the word wreckless that was used. They both admitted they were not sure what the true intent of the word expressed was. Yet they chose to wrecklessly assert they're concern which was totally misleading.

When one examines the 'voice' in the Psalms one can 'mdiscern the Trinity:

I found it interesting that the devil twisted that passage from Psalm 91 to tempt Jesus in the wilderness. And, that Jesus rejects tempting the Lord his God and doesn’t go along with the devil’s suggestion, showing he trusted the Father and fulfilled the whole Psalm (which is about trusting God in all circumstances).

Can you summarize how the law, gospels, Acts, and Revelation fit in the Trinity theme too?

I’ve been linking songs related to passages in Matthew and its cross references recently because the church I attend has been going through it slowly, and my morning readings and prayer/praise time have been basted in that gospel. Sorry for the all caps but it's critical to see. Otherwise we erringly focus on ourselves and not on him. It is the faith of Christ, not the faith of the believer. It is his faith. This is why the scripture is key to understand the NT. Look at how the NT uses the OT. Where does Paul or Jesus or Peter call the OT "fallen human concepts"? Nowhere, is where.

The law: God promised another Prophet, like Moses. We need to hear him. People were waiting for that Prophet in the gospels. They asked John the Baptist, "Are you the Prophet?" In Acts, when they accused Stephen of overturning Moses, he said that their fathers were disobedient to Moses.

Acts 7:35 “This is the same Moses they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

Jesus is the Word that comes forth from God. All things come into being through him. Only he can supplant Moses. The NT argument was, "If you listened to Moses, you would obey Jesus, because Moses said "A prophet God will raise up like me; you must hear him". Deuteronomy 18:15-19

As I read church history re Easter, it became apparent that Christians began the tradition to celebrate Christ as the fulfillment of the Passover at the same time Jews were celebrating Passover.

So this week is a good time to keep the feast of unleavened bread (sincerely and truth) and celebrate Christ’s death as the lamb of God to save our household from the destroyer and strengthen us for the journey to freedom and our new home in the promised land.

I'm assuming this was part of the original "Supplement", which was a collection of hymns, songs and arranged Psalms produced in the early to mid 70s. Many of these supplemental songs were basically Witness Lee's teachings set to music. Sometimes they were set to secular contemporary music. To my recollection, none of the authors were listed, although it was common knowledge that a number of these supplemental songs were written by the late Howard Hagashi.

At some point, a number of these early supplemental songs were incorporated into a newer version of the Local Church hymnal. I am not sure if this particular song was in the original supplement or not.

Thanks for sharing some about “The Supplement”. When I started meeting with TLR in late 1978, The Supplement already existed and was used, but it fell out of favor vs “Hymns” for the better part of a decade as Witness Lee spoke against some of its songs after Max Rappaport exited; but many of its songs were added to the back of Hymns by the mid-1980’s and gradually saw increased use in meetings again.

I recall that Dan Toule (spelling?), then an elder in Fullerton, had penned a song or two (maybe more) that took popular hymns and altered them to fit things Witness Lee had spoken “How Small Thou Art” from “How Great Thou Art” comes to mind.

I realize this thread is not really for discussion, but as we are in the final days of advent leading up to the celebration of the incarnation of the Word, it seems appropriate — at least a little.

Mary knew. But was continually learning what it meant. She knew he was the coming Messiah. But did she know that that meant? Not a king for an earthly throne, but a martyr to make a spiritual home in his people?

This was a dark point in history. The light was coming, but was not yet seen. Mary had hope, not certainty of knowledge.

The shepherds got a show of light and sound, and they went to Bethlehem to see. But then saw nothing more for at least 30 years afterward.

The town of Bethlehem was mostly unaware. Jerusalem, just a few miles away was clueless. It wasn't until the magi arrived some time later that anyone in Jerusalem finally got a clue, but still did not go to see.

While Mary was eventually part of the group of women following on his journeys, it does not appear that it was always so. She didn't understand his Father's calling when he was 12, and was somewhat chastised many years later when she and some of his brothers came to see him during his ministry travels.

Even the disciples who were with him for virtually his whole ministry still did not get it when the soldiers came in the garden and carried him away to be crucified.

The real knowing did not start until the morning of the resurrection. First with the women and then with some of the disciples. Then the two on the road to Emmaus. Then a closed room full. Eventually a few hundred in all.

Then the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. At that point, they knew. So much began to fall into place during those few days before he ascended from their sight.

We are the beneficiaries of a young girl who had enough faith to undertake a task she did not fully understand that would change the course of history. While not as the RCC does it, her name should be forever blessed.

I realize this has been around since 2008 (and the text since about 1863-64) but it only came to my attention a couple of years ago. But it was not just the sound, or the effect of a redo of an old poem/song that caught my attention, but the story behind the poem and the manner in which this new tune brought it out.

Over the course of just over two years, his wife was severely burned and died when her favorite dress caught fire in 1861, followed in late 1863 when his son who despite forbidding him to join the Union army was wounded. As the man went to the train station to collect his wounded son in late December and saw a friend there to collect a coffin with his.

In the next months, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow would write the poem “Christmas Bells” recalling the darkness in which he found himself as he heard church bells ringing as he went to the station that day. The poem seems more dark than light with verses (never sung) that speak too graphicly of the war that was going on.

Yet in the midst of it, there is “peace on earth.”

Over the years, the traditional song “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” doesn’t seem to do the underlying text justice. But the recent rendition by Casting Crowns has seemed to capture some of the juxtaposition of darkness and light that is woven through the poem. Like “Breath of Heaven,” and “Mary, Did You Know,” this song casts off the presumption of cheer and frivolity to bring us to the mostly unannounced birth of a baby in the midst of dark times. A promise of a kingdom of peace yet to be realized.

Right, it seems that Mary knew, but like us, she and Joseph were slow on the uptake, and until the complete ministry of their son unfolded and after His death and resurrection and the Holy Spirit was poured out it became crystal clear.

Here are “the puzzle pieces Mary and Joseph were given (verses copied from Berean Study Bible):

Angel Gabriel:
Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never end!”

The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.

Elizabeth:

why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

Gabriel to Joseph: Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.

And there were shepherds residing in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks by night. Yes, it is doubtful Mary would have known how Jesus would save his people from their sins or what a light for revelation to the gentiles would involve. And certainly she wouldn’t have known that it would take over 2000 years to see Israel ruled by its Christ in a manifest way (overthrow its Roman rulers).

And hearing the words “a sword will pierce your soul” can’t compare to the reality of watching her son be arrested, falsely accused, tried and found guilty of death by her Jewish leaders and oppressive government, brutally beaten and whipped with a cat of nine tails, mocked, crucified, and placed into a tomb.

STG: Is this something that could be sang by Christians everywhere, or do you think there a "taint" to it?

I like most who frequent these boards have a “once bitten twice shy” attitude toward all things LSM retains copyright on.

I like the song. Two things that caught my eye “He as the Spirit....” and “we all must call on him”.

The first is based on Lee’s processed God teaching where Christ becomes The Spirit which is debatable. The second includes “must” another word oft-used by Lee and smacks of violating our choice and sadly reminds me of mindless chanting sessions in local church meetings.

I would love to make some edits to this song (and others in LSM’s Hymns and hymnal.net) to replace non-scriptural phrases like these with scriptural phrases. But I’d need to get LSM’s permission. Something I haven’t wanted to take on.

This New Year I am more grateful than ever for the hope of glory that comes in our Lord Jesus Christ.

40 days ago I lay flat on my back in a freezing cold operating room as a brain surgeon and his team with all of their high tech surgical equipment readied themselves to anethesize me, and do the rather barbaric, but life prolonging, task of removing a brain tumor from my head. Tonight the tumor is gone (except microscopic pieces not possible to remove) my head is healed up, and I feel better than the day before that. In the month before and since my wife and I were girded up by faith in Jesus, the power of The Holy Spirit and by the encouraging words and prayers of over 100 Christians we know from many different cities, including some of you who knew.

That was the end of 2019. An amazing thing to be so grateful for. Praise Him for another year to spread His renown, expect, and hasten His return when He will truly make all things new, just like He does every day from within now.
