"Cultist" Podcast
Disclaimer as to why I'm posting this here: I've never been a part of the Lord's Recovery or Local Churches but was involved in a college Bible study that obviously weirded me out enough that I started researching and ended up here.
There's a podcast I listen to, "Cultish" by Jeremiah Roberts and Andrew Socrant, that explores different cults/people, and examines their teachings and practices. It seems to me like the Lord's Recovery would be a great topic for them and given that there are so many people here who have a lot of experience in the cult, and a desire to shed light on it, I figured I would recommend someone(s) here would reach out to them. The podcast seems to me to be a well balanced and well meaning podcast. The hosts are clearly Reformed Baptist which can either bother some or make others extremely happy, (as an Anglican some of their ideas are not my cup of tea) but they clearly love people and aim to glorify God through shedding light on counterfeits. I hope someone here reaches out to them because there are clearly a lot of people here who really want to help others see the damage that the Lord's Recovery has done, or at the very least show that it makes many ancient heretical claims. Hope this helps! |

To unregistered - thanks for stopping by and contributing. Very glad to hear you have a good head on your shoulders and investigated whatever red flags tipped you off, and that you saved yourself a lot of problems in doing so. The main person I have noticed who is willing to "put his face out there", so to speak, is a former member named Jacob Howard. He has a site, www.thelordsrecovery.org, where he has started writing a few things, and he has also done a few podcast/interviews on YouTube too. Many former members are hesitant to let their names be known, for good reason (or maybe, ultimately, not good reason....who knows). He may be willing to do the Cultish podcast. According to his website, his email address is jacobhobsonhoward@gmail.com Thanks again for posting! Trapped |

To Trapped, touché; here I come out of the shadows to comment.
To our Unregistered guest, we'd love if you would pick a name, register, and stick around for a while. I might offer a 2¢ bit of insight on why we're not flocking to tell our stories to podcasts like the one you've helpfully pointed us to. Many of us have family members still in the Recovery and are trying to maintain relationships with them. It's a tricky balance of, on one hand keeping the relationship alive with a door open to a future exit and, on the other hand wanting expose the systemic problems and abuses we see and risk damaging the relationship. For many of us, coming out publicly with criticism would seriously damage relationships. That would cause us to become what is known to the Recovery as "an opposer" and would be seen as a profound betrayal. For me it was Christian friendships and the availability of community outside the Recovery that made it possible to exit, and that is my hope for family and friends that are there now. This is not to say I am not vocal about my reasons for leaving. I have had a lot of one-on-one conversations with friends and family members who are still "in". Generally in a private setting, most have acknowledged the problems, and in that sense this is the work of "putting a pebble in their shoe." But even there, too much criticism turns people off and closes the door, and to be quoted by name to a broader audience in a podcast or on social media would take things to a new level and slam the door to the conversations that count and that for me have the best hope of making a difference. |

I agree with what you have said here - It is such a strange balance of "I want to show my face so I can help others, but I can't show my face because I want to help....these others." Sounds paradoxical but it's exactly what's going on. It does seem like there is a difference between being a quiet, mouth-shut former member and being a vocal, known "opposer". The internal opinions are the same, but the outward behavior of the former allows for at least some relationships to remain. I guess each "type" reaches different people - people who are already disgusted and on their way out might not avoid reading what an "opposer" says, while those still 'happily' in would probably avoid it. But people who are, at least, outwardly happy in the LC who avoid the 'death' opposer would still be more willing to be candid over time with someone who is quiet about things. Unfortunately I still feel like having to strike that balance ultimately means our behavior is being driven by the LC, which frustrates me, however I guess the difference is we KNOW what's going on and it's our choice which way to behave. Those in the LC whose behaviors are being controlled don't know, and without that knowledge or realization thus have little to no real choice. Trapped |

Re: "Cultist" Podcast
I reached out to them last night after watching the 1987 high scoop training video. They have seen my message but have not yet replied. If others reach out to them this may help our cause. They need to have someone ready to speak to them. Considering reaching out to Texas Street Preacher from YouTube who is a friend of a friend.

If you do reach out to Texas Street Preacher and end up doing anything like what some other members have done (can't recall their names right now) where they record themselves speaking to the camera and then TSP uploads it to his channel......please, please, please: 1) record in better light than they have done - it's beyond me why their videos look like they are done at night in a dark room with one tiny lamp on. Their words are true and the content is good, but the visual appears very "pssst....let me tell you a secret" like, which is just odd. 2) don't take the camera angle approach that TSP himself takes, which is quite literally looking down at those who he is talking to. It's a huge turn off. More pleasing content goes a long way! All the best in whatever you do. Trapped |

People keep posting links to the video, and LSM keeps chasing down the links to have it removed or blocked. It has variously been on YouTube, Vimeo, Bitchute, etc. I'm sure it will come around again. I was not at that conference, but my brother and many of my friends were, and it had a big impact (big high followed by a big crash) on all of us. Watching it 35 years later was quite an experience and was yet another confirmation that exiting TLR was that right thing to do. |

Welcome "Unregistered" to the LC brain cleansing Forum!
Here is a new public link to Part 2 of that video. Due to platform size requirements Part 1 requires additional TLC before it becomes available. Happy to learn that you survived the indoctrination. Stay tuned... P.S.

Thank you for posting these. I'm not sure if I'm excited to watch these or ashamed/horrified, since I attended this.

Watched these videos of the practices of the Lords Recovery Movement, and here are couple of comments. Just imagine that those are the same people today leading most of the local churches. What kind of growth, spiritual or otherwise would anyone be expecting from these people who have been so utterly manipulated and blinded by this movement? No wonder some still long for these things or days, in the name of the spirit flowing. Thank God for technology in 2022, so that locals can’t do and control the information and records of these events as they used to. If they pull off something of this magnitude, it would be all over the social media and such, from which they would not be able to hide as they did in those days. I got to give them some props, especially the G-Man team, they were way ahead of the curve when it comes to some of those moves. Looking at our society in the last 5 years or so, and you will find a lot of those same ideas implemented or shown by different groups. Couple of years ago, if that, when a lot of towns and major cities were getting burn down in this country, my daughter attended the SST which happened to be on Zoom that year. (Since all the churches were shut down, and that’s how I actually found out about this. I probably would have never known this otherwise.) I was appalled at the kind of line the local church was presenting to the young people about the events. Instead of condemning the evil, exposing what that was all about, they had some man on the meeting speaking about BLM and oppression. Guess what, the current members of the SST, will be the future of the locals down the road, so how messed up and brainwashed those kids will be? |
