LC members are circulating this Fox News article (http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/03/25/im-glad-that-lady-forced-bible-on-me.html) published a few days ago by a journalist who was given a copy of the Recovery Version.

The other day, I arrived at the bus stop where four Asian ladies were indiscriminately passing out New Testament Bibles. When one of the ladies offered me a Bible, I tried to decline. But she was insistent, so I tried to change the subject.

“What church are you with?” I asked.

She said she was with a non-denominational, evangelical church and again offered me a Bible.

“Thanks but I already have one,” I replied.

“That’s okay,” she said, “this one has footnotes. Take it. It’s free.”

These kinds of stories have to be taken with a grain of salt. Maybe it was for the better that someone ended up with a Bible, that’s not for me to say, but at the same time, the RcV footnotes could easily lead someone astray. In other words, it’s not necessarily a good thing that this reporter obtained an extra Bible and gave it away.

In my opinion, any time there is a situation where someone is pressuring someone else and can’t take ‘no’ for an answer, that indicates that there is a problem. The reporter claims that in this situation, it was easier to accept the Bible than to argue, but he never seems to question why it was necessary for that person to be so pushy or evasive about their affiliations.
