Default Frank Viola

Greetings everyone!

Has anyone here ever heard of Frank Viola

He seems to use a LOT of Watchman Nee’s teachings although I have only heard him refer to him once. He is is his own person. Not a parrot.

He sounds like he may have been around the LC but without the lingo. Nor does he mention “the Lord’s recovery” or “the local church”.

He emphasizes our Lord Jesus Christ and the church life. He uses the the term church life. He wrote a book called “Pagan Christianity”.

One of his messages is called Living by the indwelling Christ
At first I was a tad resistant to listen to his messages as I felt I was back in the LC. But he never mentions Lee. Nor does he seem to be a leader of a church community.

His messages can also be found on you tube. https://frankviola.info/podcast/
Thus far he does not show his face. So I don’t know what he looks like. However he is conducting a conference

Just curious if anyone has heard of Frank Viola

Blessings and Peace of Christ be upon everyone here

Carol

Frank Viola has been a leading proponent of the "House Church Movement". Viola and many who follow him refer to "The organic house church movement". Yes, Viola has been influenced by Watchman Nee.

Here is an YouTube audio of Viola entitled "Rethinking Church"

Unfortunately, Viola's "organic house-church movement" has hardened into a somewhat legalistic religious movement with Viola as the unquestioned guru. (sound familiar guys?)

His bio reads:

The influences on Viola’s thinking and spirituality are many and varied.

A.W. Tozer, Watchman Nee, T. Austin-Sparks, David Wilkerson, Keith Green, John Wimber, Andrew Murray, DeVern Fromke have all been strong influences.

As far as ministry goes, Viola’s main theme in all of his work is to persuade Christians to treat others the same way they want to be treated. Not only was this Jesus’s core teaching in Matthew 7:12, but “if all Christians lived like this,”Viola says, “it would eliminate all gossip, all slander, all evil-speaking, all abuse, all lies about others, all mistreatment. If we put ourselves in some one else’s shoes before we said or did anything, it would change the way that Christians treat each other which is one of the main reasons why nonbelievers want nothing to do with Christianity. So many of them have told me, ‘Why do I want to get in the line of friendly fire. Christians are nastier than atheists much of the time.”

His mission statement taken from his blog is as follows:

Hey, how’s it going? I’m Frank Viola. I’m a happily married man, a father, a cat and dog lover (and owner), the author of God’s Favorite Place on Earth and From Eternity to Here, a speaker, a writer, and an entrepreneur. I love movies, music, and NY style pizza.

But this blog isn’t about me, it’s about you.

My mission is to help serious followers of Jesus to know their Lord more deeply, to gain fresh perspectives on old or ignored subjects, and to make the Bible come alive.

I am cool with his blogs/ messages. But there will never be a perfect “church life” on this earth as we know it, no matter how close our walk with the Lord. We have experienced the corporate church life and it doesn’t work without being cult like.
As individuals, We can only attempt to shine brightly in this dark world we are living in, extend kindness and God’s love to others. Fellowship with who we can

“not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”Hebrews 10:25

In the words of Chynna Phillips (daughter of Michelle and John Phillips of Mamas and Papa’s fame) I close with the phrase:

Jesus is my Rock and that’s how I roll. 🤠
Healings, Blessings and Peace of Christ everyone!
