Enneagram?
The place where I'm meeting is holding a "workshop" on using the Enneagram. I read up a bit on it and it seems to have ties to the occult, mysticism, and as far as I can tell, does not promote a dependence on God or relationship with Him - more of a figure yourself out by yourself and you'll be a better person.
This may not be the place to ask since it doesn't directly relate to the Lcs. I'm just puzzled how to proceed. At this point, I don't think the Enneagram is a good thing, and I don't want to get involved in it. That's pretty settled. What isn't settled is where do I go from here? Talk with the pastor? (to what end?) Just leave and find another congregation that doesn't promote the Enneagram? Speak up to others? My questions to you are 1) have you been around the Enneagram? If so, how did it measure up against the Word? 2) If you believe before the Lord that you can't be involved in some practice, do you leave, speak up, speak up then leave, stay and speak up? The church at large seems to be engaging in more and more things, activities, programs, etc. that just seem strange to me. When do the minors become the majors? Haven't fully formed my thoughts on this one - so apologies for the ramblings! Redeemed |

Re: Enneagram?
Redeemed,
I would do a little research into the Enneagram Institute before participating in this workshop. If you go to their website https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/about , you will find the following: The Enneagram Institute®, created in 1997 by the late Don Richard Riso and by Russ Hudson, was formed to further research and development of the Enneagram, one of the most powerful and insightful tools for understanding ourselves and others. At its core, the Enneagram helps us to see ourselves at a deeper, more objective level and can be of invaluable assistance on our path to self-knowledge. This sounds like a "New Age" kind of program, which should give any serious Christian a lot of caution and pause, to say the least. I'm assuming that this is just some sort of voluntary workshop that only a small number of the church members are participating in? -

Frankly, I would just leave and find another place to attend, worship and serve. Maybe you could write a long email to the pastor after you get settled at another place. I will send you a PM with some suggestions on finding an evangelical/orthodox church in your area. -

Hey brother, I read the page UntoHim shared and asked the Lord......what I felt is that enneagram theory smacked of scientology. I googled to see if there was any relationship and found this webpage. It took me 2 minutes, and I didn't do ANY in depth reading at either sight, but I have a feeling this might not be for Christian's. Just my first take. God bless you and may He lead you regarding enneagrams! |

Thanks, UntoHim. I did look into the Enneagram and that is exactly what bothered me - very new age, and connected with occult practices, etc. Nothing I want to be involved in for sure. What mostly concerns me though is what do I do now? I won't go to the workshop, but do I continue to fellowship there, when the pastoral staff is announcing this event and encouraging people to attend? Do I leave? Do I stay and just not participate? Do I stay and let people know my view of how I understand the Bible as it applies to the situation? No group of people is perfect, but what do you do when things don't match the Word as you understand it? I think of Revelation 2, with all those churches and their various problems, sins, environments, and troublemakers. The Lord told some to repent, some to hold fast, some to overcome. What is He saying today in light of all the strange things happening? I heard some news about Hillsong recently, and stories about gold dust and angel feathers, and the practice of grave sucking. Those things seem obvious to me, but other influences are subtly impacting how we meet, what we teach, etc. We have an anointing and we know. What I lack is the wisdom to know how to talk with my brothers and sisters about some of these things. Have any of you experienced this, around this or a similar topic? |

Thanks! That helps. I didn't connect those two but it does make sense. That web site looks like it might have some good info. I'll take a closer look. (p.s. I'm a sister! ) |

You can't go wrong if you speak the truth in love, in your assembly, sister. Then whatever happens is their choice, and you will have your clear answer eventually....if it is for you or not. |
