Many are the Plans in a Man's Heart - 2020 Goals
This time of year, many are reflecting on the previous year. For me my realization is this: My life amounts to nothing and all I touch becomes dust.
My prayer for 2020 is: Lord please give me a fresh revelation of Christ and make me a profitable servant. Here are a few verses that help me in goal setting and planning: "Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails!" “For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope.” "Therefore this one thing I do, forgetting the things which are behind and stretching forward to the things which are before, I pursue toward the goal for the prize to which God in Christ Jesus has called me upward." "So be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.And the peace of God which passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." "Looking away unto Jesus, the Author and Perfecter/Finisher of our faith!" Proverbs 19:21 Jeremiah 29:11; Philippians 3:13-14, 4:6-7 Hebrews 12:2

Re: Many are the Plans in a Man's Heart - 2020 Goals
FYI - just want to say that a main part of my profession is about helping people set and achieve goals. So every year around this time, I would practice what I preach and would diligently look at my last year's accomplishments, then see what I wanted to achieve in this year. (by the way, the Roman god, Janus, was two-faced . . . looking backward and forward. It's where we get the name for the month of January!) A very high percentage of people's New Year's resolutions fail within a few weeks, so we coach people how to set realistic goals with a good structure of insight, documentation, tracking and accountability. I was good at setting these types of goals and would accomplish a majority of them.
But last year I just gave the whole annual goal thing to the Lord, based upon the verses I shared in the first post. And you know what!? The sky didn't fall and me and my wife had a really, really good year - Praise God!!! So I'm not advocating that anyone give up on writing out annual goals, or anything like that. I'm just relating that He is faithful! (and who knows - maybe He'll prompt me to set some goals for this year . . .)

Proverbs 14:22 is another good verse https://biblehub.com/proverbs/14-22.htm There are also a number of proverbs about seeking and heeding the advice of multiple advisors as one plans. Thanks again STG. You contribute a lot to these boards, so I encourage you to keep that up in 2020. Don’t worry that other posters (including me) may say things contrary. That’s part of a healthy ekklesia. Diverging views that can help us all find “the truth which is in Jesus”.

As far as that opening line, this was a realization of my flesh. Truly whatever the flesh does amount to nothing and becomes dust! Only Christ operating in and through us has any profit and will remain. (and I'm not into "morbid self introspection" - which produces condemnation . . . only God is the Good Judge of us) Thanks for the encouragement - we all need it!
