I attended LC pretty consistently from the mid-70s to late-80s in two different localities, each with hundreds of congregants. Saw Witness Lee in person several times, and he definitely had the snake oil salesman persona in full effect, although he could've worked a little more on the charm part. This unpleasant guy was the dude we're all supposed to be following?

At that time, I remember there was a lot of controversy swirling in the air about mutinous localities, etc.--very strong sense of you're either with us or for Satan.

Obviously I kept my opinions to myself!
