picketers outside conferences
I recall some people would hold signs saying all kinds of things about the lc. Sounds like many were ex. Lcers....since they know the when and where
Did anyone stop to engage these folk? |

Re: picketers outside conferences
Yeah it was fairly common.
Folk would hold banners near building 8 or the hyatt in burlingame. I wish I can recall accurately sone of them. I recall one accusing of the church taking property from them in some way |

Re: picketers outside conferences
Now you have my curiosity perked. I attended trainings regularly before building 8 was built, and I don't remember seeing picketers at any point. I would presume that it was ex-members or those with some relationship to the LC. It's not like the WBC would come out to picket LSM

Re: picketers outside conferences
I remember coming across one of these picketers as I was driving away from a regional type conference in Santa Clara or San Jose (not Burlingame) where Ron Kangas was speaking. Can't remember the hotel exactly.
One of the people in my car saw someone that held up a sign that said "the Local Church ruined my family". I empathized with them because this was around the time I had already decided to leave the LCs and was fantasizing about escape plans in my mind but was feeling dejected because I couldn't see how my wife who was dragging me to all these conferences and trainings at the time would also come around to it. I wanted to go to talk to one of them but there were others in my car at the time. I think folks like them that have been dearly hurt could find healing at a forum such as this.

I'm sure current members would see these things and just assume it's an "attack of the enemy" - wherever they are, the enemy will be "attacking". It probably serves as reinforcement to them. Why can't members ever just consider for a minute that there are people out there who have been hurt by the LC? Is it really too difficult to admit that?

Re: picketers outside conferences
I recall finding this forum a couple years ago...it was a thread on thetraining center in boston. My gut reaction was to brush posters off as bitter...but I really began to wonder. It makes sense that most conferencegoees hardly notice protesters...it is a truth as inconvenient as fossils to a literalist.
I met with a friend who is currently in the training and told him...sort of tongue in cheek...that I found those websites he cant see and got poisoned...by untold history. |
