Several did go whole hog into sin, and we all relaxed on what we would do. I agree with what you are saying.

Lest I present an unbalanced “anything goes except sinful practices” the apostles give good reasons for sometimes not doing some things that are perfectly “lawful”. Here are some Paul wrote:
