I dont think he has the option to get Sharon to be honest. For him to pursue Sharon would mean him leaving the LC with the agreement of Sharon. There is no way the elders would allow a happy and loving relationship between Sharon and John. As this relationship will violate their self interest. Sharon is also emotionally attached to the Local Churches and the chances of her ditching the LC for John will be quite slim at this point of time. To add more gloom, John has complete cut off communication from Sharon and even other sisters as they just want to surround him with Susan. It is a dirty isolation tactic and I can see it as clear as day. He is not really in a position to freely chose. To get Sharon will cost him leaving the LC. But even if he was to let go of Sharon- if he was to also refuse Susan, this could also cause some problems for him in the LC. Susan is the daughter of a big time elder who is on top in that locality.

Honestly this whole system of arranged relationships is just a huge mess. Some people have happy relationships by this system but this is overshadowed by the huge amount of unhappy or bland relations in the LC. The chess board/Puppet Master mentality from the higher ups in the Local churches just display the flaws of this system. Full grown adults being taken advantage of like this is just the most odious and repugnantly demonstration of control in the local churches.
