Perhaps Jesus did not "have to."

Perhaps it was His choice so that His human nature could also become life-giving Spirit in order to give us eternal life within our humanity.

Jesus is God and God is Spirit as you say, but when the Son of God was incarnated as the man named Jesus, was He still Spirit? If He was still Spirit, then He would not need food, He would not need to sleep, He could pass thru walls, etc.
