Not only were "good material" actively sought, but that "good material" was often manipulated by others to become "gooder material."
The pattern of manipulation was systemic, starting at the top, and flowing down until it reached every finger and toe of the body.
Curious did you not just enumerate many of the forms this manipulation would take on? And were these not just the same way they were "raised up?"
