Re: Setting the Mind on the Spirit - The Vanishing Verb
That excerpt makes me want to tear my hair out. There is zero help there. Zero. No wonder I never paid for a ministry book unless I was forced to.
One classic problem in that excerpt is the implication that comes out due to the examples he uses. His examples of "living Christ" are all those of praying, calling, confessing. And the second "real life" shows up, all of a sudden his living Christ cannot stand up to any form of daily existence. It honestly comes across to me like some sort of mental self-flagellation that he cannot live up to some standard that isn't even being asked of him. I just see a mental health issue, quite frankly. We are not meant to beat ourselves up all day long.
Additionally, it places blame on his own wife for his living Christ to stop. "Her questioning halted my living of Christ". Nope, her question seems like a pretty normal marriage question to me. If your "living Christ" can't get through a normal spousal conversation, maybe there is something wrong with the person who purports to be "living Christ".
Additionally, ethics, logic, and biblical teachings are not anti-Christ or anti-living Christ. I can't get away from this stuff fast enough.
