That Jesus will always be a "more or less" of our thought and imagination. Our idealized self is the not fully conscious self that is the source of our conscience and ideals. It is the Christ within us that Paul talks about in Galatians 2:20. The way we interpret the Jesus of scripture is in response to the inner Christ which is our idealized self.
