Perhaps Mephi is right, John was writing in his study at Patmos, with his copy of the Septuagint handy, for reference, creating this book not by experiences, by out of whole cloth, from OT imagery, speaking code, to avoid provoking the Romans, explaining what he saw going on in his day. And Christians in that day understood John, and did (like every generation since) relate his crazy tome to their day.

But the word Menorah is not mentioned anywhere in the Bible ... not that I can find.
