For a contemporary version of "speaking the truth to power", I would nominate brother
Indiana. Witness Lee was busy serving the Hive Mind, and trying to build up the appearance of the kingdom of heaven, and so he said that we should seek out and care for the poor, afflicted, lost, and broken-hearted. Brother
Indiana did so, and their stories of affliction and destitution made the Hive Mind deputies uncomfortable, so they did the same thing that was done to the prophet Jeremiah: they branded him a "troublemaker" and put him (figuratively) in an iron cage.
So brother Indiana is today's version of Jeremiah. He spoke the truth to power, and paid the price as a consequence.
I am sure there are others, both in the Local Church and elsewhere. I just give brother Indiana as an example.
