No doubt these events were part of their relatively recent history, yet Jesus never went around saying that He was that kid. He never told anyone that Herod himself had wanted to kill Jesus as a baby.

Good points. This is why I find it is almost impossible to use signs and wonders as the standard. The real ones won't advertize their works, and the false ones will.
