Update on Meeting Hall fire in Denver:
Dear brothers & sisters, As you probably know by now, early this past Wednesday morning the meeting hall suffered a gasoline fire due to arson. The prompt response of the Denver Fire Department prevented any substantial structural damage, but every room and area of the building suffered very extensive smoke damage. The insurance company adjuster and a fire restoration contractor have been working with our brothers every day since the fire, and we should have a complete damage report next week. It seems likely that there is close to a total loss of the building contents. Our insurance policy with Church Mutual has replacement cost coverage and we trust the policy limits will be sufficient to cover the loss.
The city has required some hazardous material tests, and we were informed verbally today that a high percentage of asbestos was found in a number of places in the building, ceilings, walls and floors. Some further environmental tests will also have to be made next week. Access to the building will be restricted and specialized licensed crews will be required to remove the hazardous material. We will keep you updated in further reports.
We are very thankful to the Lord that no one was injured by the fire. It is our prayer that as the physical meeting hall is rebuilt there will be a corresponding restoration and “renewing of the Holy Spirit” in the whole church life in Denver. (See Titus 3:5, notes 4 & 5).
We are searching for a suitable temporary meeting place, please pray for this. This week (June 8th) Lord’s day meetings will be held in five districts, South/West, South/Central, East, North, and Central. You should be contacted by the saints in your district concerning the location. If you have any questions please contact brothers Gary, Robert or Gene (Bryan, Fred, and Steve are out of town). The Saturday morning watch and Wednesday night church prayer meetings will be held at the Red Brick House (1936 S Cook St).
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
Your brothers,
The Denver elders
