The Apostle John gave us an interesting warning in 1 John 3:7 "Little children,
let no one deceive you." Is it possible that he was prophesying that there will be teachers like WL, WN and the exclusive brethren who would lead us astray to think that someone could practice sin and still be saved? In the rest of 1 John 3, John makes it clear that someone who practices sin is "of the devil" and not born again. It's hard to see how such a person can be saved through a direct reading of the scripture.
1 John 3:7-10 (ESV)
Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous.
Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and
he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.
By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.
If we're relying on commentary to re-interpret passages like this to mean something else, whatever we allow to be the final authority for our understanding becomes "our bible". This is why the life-studies and other kind of commentaries from WN and the exclusive brethren which deviate too far from the original meaning of scripture are so dangerous. I believe it is Satan's way to subvert the authority of God's word by sneakily introducing a replacement without our knowing.
