Re: My experience as a church kid: Why I want out

Thank you. I understand the "Church" is not just our Western (Protestant?) conception of a building with a pastor. The Church is the society of believers. In that sense the LC is almost right, but...

Re: My experience as a church kid: Why I want out

The good: they were there even during a time when I felt incredibly lonely. I didn't know anyone on campus and I went through some stuff. Just meeting with them on campus and at their houses helped a...

Re: My experience as a church kid: Why I want out

Hi. I am currently in college too (currently doing my masters) and I left the LC in my second year. Luckily my family wasn't in it, so I can't give any advice. Since I left them I also haven't gone...

Question A Timeline of Events?

I haven't been active on this forum in a while, but I like to lurk around sometimes. One of my friends is still in the LC - and is dating another LC member - so a part of me wants to know more. Some...

Re: Glad

Thanks. I always understood it in the sense of sharing. We might be able to appreciate that nature, and enjoy the benefits thereof (in the sense that God allows us to appreciate him), but that's not...

Re: Glad

I haven't been on this forum in a while. Can you show me where those lyrics were sung? And where they said we become God in nature? That's the most blasphemous thing someone could possibly say.

Re: How I got here, and what is this place?

I can't speak for everyone hear, and I myself aren't active a lot, but I've watched the forum for a while and here's what I get.

This forum is still very much active. It has a number of core...

Re: Poor, poor Christianity...

Perhaps he didn't, but the quote I quoted said that Christianity embraces heresy. That's just nonsensical. Embracing a number of denominations is not the same as embracing heresy. To know what is...

Re: Poor, poor Christianity...

It is not fair to say that Christianity embraces the heretical. That's a contradiction in terms. A religion cannot embrace heretical doctrine. It might be possible for "Christianity" in the popular...

Re: Deceptions on Campus

I think it was actually this one

By this point I've been with them for over a year. I left shortly afterwards.

Edit: No I'm confused. It is this...

Re: Deceptions on Campus

You have a point. In spite of usually being "accepted" in some sense, I never truly felt as though I was one with them.
It's kinda confusing. On the one hand I did feel a part of them, always...

Re: Deceptions on Campus

In my experience they were open to us using other versions. They definitely held to the Recovery Version and suggested people to use it, but they never put any pressure on me not to use my King James...

Re: Deceptions on Campus

One thing that struck me about Christians on Campus was the appearance of a lack of hierarchy. There wasn't a clear case of "this guy is in charge" or "this person manages everything". Only on this...

Re: A Facebook Group?

I don't think so. It seems making it a closed group prevents non-Facebook users from viewing it.

Re: A Facebook Group?

I have heard of it. Americans might be surprised to hear how every bit of information of them, from Trump to North Korea, and major companies like Facebook are major news here as well. And in the age...

Re: A Facebook Group?

Thanks for the feedback. I think threats of the group being removed is overstated. There are quite a number of groups that are quite controversial on very polarising discussions, like creationism,...

A Facebook Group?

When I first had some questions on the Local Church I decided to google it, but I didn't come across any discussions on them, at least not active sites. At best I came across that open letter, and...

Re: From a concerned parent

Not to derail the discussion, but the above quotes are very true. For my part, what helped me out of the LC was this psychological and spiritual "package" being broken - I had a rougher class...

Re: Where do you meet

I'm ashamed to say that since leaving them more than a year ago I have not found another church. One reason is that the LC made me VERY skeptical and cautious towards every church.

My fellowship...

Re: Testimony of FollowHim!

Since the LC was kicked off campus I've not been so active on this forum anymore, but I really need to point this out. Please see the Recovery Version's footnote on Revelations 3:8:

That's the...

Re: Just Left the 'Recovery'. What a Relief.

This is interesting. I never thought a lot about it, but it explains the difficulty I had in talking to some of the girls there. I found it slightly odd how the men and women had to sit with their...

He is right. I for one appreciate the anonymity of this forum. It might be better for you (BlossomingLily) not to be overly specific on places and people.

Re: Wait, It's A Cult?

I recall one time, as every person took his turn to share something, how one person stood up and said something absurd. I cannot remember what he said, but it was akin to saying that Solomon was...

The Local Church in Russia

I haven't posted in a while. Since our Christians on Campus were kicked off campus, I haven't seen a lot of LC members and as such this whole issue has been far from my mind.

This morning a good...
