Re: No Place Like Hell

I have to comment on this, and then I will return to the outer darkness.

Manna-man does not embrace Universalism. He is an Annihilationist, along with STG and yours truly. And we have clearly...

Re: Infallibiliy of the Bible?

I have studied the history and there was no canon defined at the end of the first century. They used the LXX and relied on more NT writings than what is considered canon today.

If I can summarize...

Re: Infallibiliy of the Bible?

I have been wanting to ask you what you mean by “accepted canon”

The Protestant canon, and that one only?

And was the LXX an accepted canon, just because it was the only Greek edition?

My...

Re: Infallibiliy of the Bible?

I have no clue where you got this thought…. I just said that I think Jesus taught them how to read the scriptures. I guess I had to clarify that statement for you.

It is the second and third...

Re: Infallibiliy of the Bible?

Oh I wish you were correct on this point. The LXX contained a lot of Greek “Wisdom literature”, which promoted the Goddess Sophia, as “the Mother of us all”.

I’ve been thinking that Jesus likely...

Re: Infallibiliy of the Bible?

I guess it was OK for you that the LXX spawned the Holy Mother of God heresy?

But I agree with you that God is not concerned about the text, because He allowed this to happen. Jesus was in a...

Re: Passing away of Benson Phillips

In the sub-forum "writings of former members", there is a page called "History by Don Rutledge". Only the first two chapters are posted, but it does discuss Benson's early history in a positive...

Re: Infallibiliy of the Bible?

Jer 7 (YLT)

22 For I did not speak with your fathers, Nor did I command them in the day of My bringing them out of the land of Egypt, Concerning the matters of burnt-offering and sacrifice,

Re: No Place Like Hell

You are also right on this point… I oversimplified my explanation.

There is indeed a class of people who will be saved apart from hearing and believing in today’s good news. I am trying to bring...

Re: No Place Like Hell

Right, although as I said in a later post, I leave room for a very sad possibility that regenerated souls could be included: those who join Satan in his final rebellion.

This was hinted at some...

Re: No Place Like Hell

Not gonna argue with you on this point of view, as I think there is enough wiggle room to allow our differences in opinion.

Nonetheless, I will try weakly to counter your point, using Timotheist...

Re: No Place Like Hell

I was thinking today about eternal torment for the unsaved.

It occurred to me that among the many misconceptions handed down to us from the Dark Ages is that we have an “immortal soul” that must...

Re: No Place Like Hell

I was speaking of "we" in the global humanity sense. MacDonald's position is that even the dishonorable pots will eventually be saved. To challenge such a position, I asked the question about...

Re: No Place Like Hell

I have the same ho.

So it begs the question: why do we (if MacDonald is right) get such a merciful break, but the other created beings do not?

Re: No Place Like Hell

Does MacDonald include Satan and the other fallen angels as being recipients of such eventual mercy?

Just asking for a friend.

Re: Infallibiliy of the Bible?

So can one can be saved by works, apart from having the indwelling Spirit? Even in this NT age?

The whole chapter speaks to this possibility, so this verse is not yanked out of its context.

Unfortunately, As one of those hurt by the extreme teachings of the LR, this was a big part of the hurt. Just saying. For many, this subject is a harsh reality that ex members have to...

Re: Infallibiliy of the Bible?

The Masoretic text trimmed about 1500 years of history from earlier versions.

Now THAT was a lot of scissoring!

Re: Infallibiliy of the Bible?

An example of “truth”, from Wikipedia:

The Masoretic Text[a] (MT or ; Hebrew: נֻסָּח הַמָּסוֹרָה, romanized: Nūssāḥ Hammāsōrā, lit. 'Text of the Tradition') is the authoritative Hebrew and...

But my question was in response to your statement "Heaven and Hell are actually just...

Re: Infallibiliy of the Bible?

Nell, that post would get a "like" from me, if I could!

It ultimately boils down to "It's not what you know, but Who you know."

We, myself included, focus a lot on the "what".
