Works of the flesh to avoid
Heresy
https://biblehub.com/greek/139.htm Divisions https://biblehub.com/greek/139.htm Strife https://biblehub.com/greek/139.htm Enmity, Hostility https://biblehub.com/greek/2189.htm It is so easy to fall into these. I found it helpful, sobering, convicting, and enlightening to read the definitions and verse citations of these words used in apostles warnings. Helpful to understand errors I once fell into, lived in, and hope to avoid on local church discussions site. |

Other than that, excellent topic. My own antidote has been to see the gospel as it was initially presented. God raised Jesus from the dead and gave him glory. Everything looks to that. Notice how the schismatics and sectarians look so easily away from that, to other things. |

I’ll repost Galatians 5:20 in Greek, which is one of the verses that got me onto this. It is the second verse in a list of works of the flesh that are manifest, and the concordance links are there I messed up trying to link, as well as some others. 5:19 is worthy of discussion too. https://biblehub.com/text/galatians/5-20.htm |
Re: Works of the flesh to avoid
One of the things that caught my eye about this list was the word English speakers have transliterated into “heresy”, which Christians often accuse each other of. The concordance definitions weren’t what I was expecting. Strongs’ for example says the following:
◄ 139. hairesis ► hairesis: choice, opinion Original Word: αἵρεσις, εως, ἡ Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine Transliteration: hairesis Phonetic Spelling: (hah'-ee-res-is) Definition: choice, opinion Usage: a self-chosen opinion, a religious or philosophical sect, discord or contention. Does this “ring a bell” for you about how TLR operates? It sure does for me. More on the other works of the flesh later. |
