Ditto and Amen.

Let your GREATNESS shine upon the people whose homes have been devastated and whose souls are downtrodden because of the damage caused by the hurricane...

And Don't let the price of gas go up Father God.

Thank You for listening to our prayers Lord Jesus.

Prayers for Texas

Lord, spare the many from the storm and bring them to know You in the coming days.

Teach us all to rely upon You.

I was curious, because when the building on Ball Road in Anaheim was being built, I was of grade school age. At that time my impression was the building was going to be for the Church in Anaheim replacing the East Anaheim location. Only years later did I learn Living Stream was deeded 75% of the property while the Church in Anaheim had 25%.
As an adult I wonder how do the brothers who labored on the building projects feel now? In Anaheim and in Irving?

Years ago (~1989?) LSM in Irving circulated a request among the churches for engineers familiar with airport sound level testing and recording. I was familiar with the technology, so I considered helping, but in the end kept "silent." Glad I did

Irving meeting hall 08/10/08

I was 1 block west of Northgate and Esters in Irving this morning so I decided to swing by and take a look at the hall in Irving. It was about 9:30 Sunday morning, and 10 or so cars had poured into the parking lot.
The property itself was beautiful. It looked a lot better than the last time I saw it, when it was a little run down. I took a few pictures with my cell phone which I haven't uploaded yet, but it looked so good it made me sad and I had to wipe away a few tears.

I had a dream once. All the dreams I've ever had that could remotely have any spiritual significance can be counted on one finger, so this one is it. It was really unusual for me.

The scene was the Irving meeting hall. I was standing in the entrance looking into the big room. It was empty except for a few chairs around the room with women sitting in them sewing jeans. Yep. Jeans. Blue jeans. I couldn't see jeans, just blue fabric, but I knew it was blue jeans.

That's the picture, and nothing else happened. I woke up and before I was fully awake the verse came to me, "You have made my Father's house a house of merchandise." At the time, the Living Stream Ministry was still printing books downstairs in the Irving hall. Books...jeans... merchandise. It was all the same.

OBW I doubt the airport noise is really a factor. They built that thing while there were take-offs going right overhead and put additional insulation in the roof and walls to compensate.

I've not yet discovered anything substantial on this particular rumor, but I do note that it does not look like the place we built all those years ago. I also hear that it is mostly unused since much of the LSM work has been moved back to Anaheim or elsewhere, there are no more trainings there, and the local assembly does not begin to need the huge meeting space. Some have also suggested that the extreme volatility of the soil in the area has exceeded the measures taken to over come it and there are foundation problems. In Irving this is a distinct possibility.

I would not be surprised that it is either for sale or they were trying to get a buy-out by the airport. I find any complaint about noise interesting since it was the very proximity to the airport that drew them to it in the first place and they had ample data concerning potential noise before they bought the land.

If there really are the foundation problems I mentioned, then its actual value may be not much more than the land since it could be cheaper to simply bulldoze it and rebuild than fix it. If that is true, it is a shame.

It is interesting that you aren't sure who would be trying to sell it. I'm not sure whose property it is either. It was "sold" to us as a meeting hall, a training center, a publishing location, and an apartment for Lee. That really muddies the issue.

What is the status/condition of the Irving LSM Office/meeting hall?

I heard it has fallen into disrepair. I one time I heard that the LC (or church in Irving) was trying to get some governmental agency either buy the land or condemn it with compensation due to the DFW airport noise.

OBW Changes. Let’s see.

For one, when I left, there was not yet HWMR replacing actual reading of the Word and being the guiding focus of meetings. There was no such thing as “ministry meetings” that were not something under the control of the local saints/elders. There was no “one publication” edict. The ramifications of that in Dallas will not be what they are somewhere else. I have no idea exactly how that plays out in Dallas.

Oh, I think that the Church in Dallas rocks along in some ways as it always has. But it has also been strongly influenced by BP and the proximity of the Irving publishing arm of the LSM (although I’m not certain that is actually still ongoing since they are trying to get the airport to buy their property).

The little that my parents (now only my dad) would talk about the LC, other than in very vague terms or through mentioning seeing specific LCers for dinner or whatever, suggested that at least they did not buy into all that was going on concerning the HH lawsuit.

But they were oblivious to so many things. That any quarantine was happening was almost off their radar. It just didn’t exist.

But I recall how my mom used to read the Word every day. But in the last few years of her life, I’m not sure it was as prevalent. And when I mentioned something about a verse in a manner that was not necessarily consistent with Lee’s teaching, she essentially said that we just can’t trust our own understanding of scripture.

My sister made some comment once encapsulated with “surely you believe Bro Lee was right when he said ...” My response was a simple but straight “No, I do not.” I think she expected that I would simply agree with anything Lee had taught. I do not recall the particular issue, but I was not being flippant when I said “no.”

When I joined the LC, we were taught to read the scriptures and study (as well as pray-read them). When I left, it was almost only pray-reading. Scripture was never read with the intent to consider what it said. It was pray-read to get out of your mind. The ministry was read to “gain from Christ.” This was the effect of only 14 years. It has now been another 21 years.

That is the problem. I cannot put my finger on everything that I might expect other than to say that I am sure that if I decided to attend a meeting in Dallas, I’m fairly confident that it would not resemble what I left 21 years ago. Some of the changes will be irrelevant, some for the better. But with the other downturn in LSM-affiliated localities, I have a hard time believing that Dallas has managed to stay that far out of the norm.

I just would like to have something of substance so that I am not just moving in the dark when I talk to my Dad, sister, or brother. I would like to know how strongly they toe the LSM line. How mainstream they are. How much they are or are not under the influence of one or more FTT graduates and all that might entail. Were they truly behind the HH lawsuit or was it just done as something presumed to be requried.

Despite the fact that my Dad and sister are in the Church in Dallas and my brother is in Arlington, I get no real insight into the local structure or situation.

I’m clear that they are fully entrenched in the LSM system, or at least there is no significant controversy on the subject, but all of the minimal evidence I get is that they are basically going on with something at least somewhat resembling the “church life” as I knew it 20+ years ago.

I wonder if that is simply because the changes have been gradual and not really noticed or if it is that my Dad has tended to not pay attention to the things that might not otherwise be as he thinks they ought. (I know that he thought the HH lawsuit was a waste of somebody’s money, but as far as he knew, it wasn’t his. He also would not be prone to referring to anyone as the apostle of the age or anything like that.)

Is there any objective information on what is going on in Dallas. Or does it appear that Dallas may be just riding the waves and not rocking the boat. Any information would be helpful.
