I'll get the ball rolling with something I've been told numerous times by saints whenever I question the Recovery Bible/the footnotes and why a single man, WL, is to be trusted as a single source. You don't (or at least you shouldn't) trust a single news outlet for stories when you're researching for a paper. Yet, why should we trust a single man with all of our supplemental readings and bible footnotes, and "messages", etc.

The answer I am given when I have asked specifically about the Recovery footnotes, I am told:
"It wasn't written by Witness Lee. It was written by many brothers from across the country who have studied the bible for decades."

From LSM website: "The Recovery Version of the Bible was translated and revised by the Editorial Section of Living Stream Ministry from 1974 to 2003. The Recovery Version of the Bible contains numerous study aids, including, the subject and background of each book; detailed, interpretive outlines; enlightening footnotes, valuable cross-references, and a variety of useful charts and maps. All of these study aids were written by Witness Lee, who received much help from the writings of noted Bible expositors throughout church history, including his co-worker, Watchman Nee."

^LSM itself admits the footnotes were written by Witness Lee.

And to most saints they are completely comfortable with that. For those who question it, like myself, you are given a simple answer of "well actually it was written by a lot of people, who worked together on it, etc."

Not sure if anybody else has heard this "explanation" as well?

Witnes Lee's closest co-worker and co-writer for years was John Ingalls. Lee put the hymns into English and Ingalls made it readable. I'm not sure any of the hymns were published apart from Ingalls. My sense was that this was true for other material as well, such as footnotes. But Ingalls was cast aside eventually, like all but a few of the fire-breathers. So you got the generic 'editorial section', which is whomever will subsume their ego to the Deputy God, aka God's Humble Bondslave.

But as far as I know, the Lee family owns every word published by LSM. Thus the sole authorship on the masthead.

Yeah I know there were contributing factions, but at the same time in my opinion its incredibly misleading to describe LSM publications as group efforts.

They told me that each local church was autonomous and the elders answered only to God.
