Hello everyone! I am currently a fourth-year undergraduate student studying sociology at Duke University. I was a member of the Local Church for many years, but I was able to disaffiliate by the Lord's mercy. It was a difficult and confusing process, but I am doing much better now. I look forward to sharing my testimony with you all sometime before I graduate. After speaking with several individuals with similar painful experiences and reading many testimonies on here, I have been inspired to do something to help. This year, I have the opportunity of working on a research project that is trying to better understand the different types of social experiences people have after leaving religious totalistic groups (i.e. cults/new religious movements) in order to find more practical ways to help support people during the readjustment process. I have created a survey to ask about these experiences, which has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Duke. This electronic survey consists of yes/no, multiple choice, and scaled questions, and it is open to anyone who is a former member of a cult or new religious movement. The survey will be completely anonymous and does not collect any identifying information. It takes about 15 minutes to complete. The link to the survey is: https://duke.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0NAzdVBgknVpEfX

If you are someone who disaffiliated from the Local Church (and consider it to be a religious totalistic group), you are more than welcome to take the survey. I would be deeply grateful for your time and participation. I am excited to learn from the data I collect and use it to design research-based interventions in the future. This survey is open to anyone who is a former member of ANY cult or new religious movement, and there are no other requirements -- so you are definitely encouraged to share the link! Thank you so much for your help and prayers. Please feel free to message me with any questions or concerns.
Blessings!

Hi Holdfast! Thanks for doing this. I would be happy to participate. Is there anyway we can see the results of your study? All the best to you and glad to hear that you are doing well! May the Lord bless you.

Thanks Holdfast. I took the survey. I have great curiosity about and interest in your research.

I'd also like to know more about your local church experience.

I didn't take this survey and it is closed so I can't take it now or view the questions. Does anyone know what the results were or at least what questions were asked? Thanks.

I don't remember much about the questions, but I would like to know the results.
