Trying to understand a group "Church of Wells", previously known as "Church of Arlington" formed in Grande Prairie, Texas, by three young college students attending Baylor.

Is it a "local church"? It seems to have started as such, but it's very confusing and conflicting.

They don't say much about Watchman Nee and Lee, but there are occasional mentions from time to time. They have their own sophisticated website and wrote their own doctrinal manuals. A standard Baptist Statement of Faith doesn't reflect their true beliefs - they are not Baptist.

Thanks.

I'm the original poster (above). After reading through a fair amount here, it occurs to me that identifying what exactly it is, what brand it is, isn't really all the critical, is it? Being under the control and authority of a spiritual leader seems to sort of look the same, regardless of the name of it.

I'm fairly sure this group had its roots as a local church offshoot of some Texas group and morphed into something else. Either way, I think families would find some value in reading here and maybe some insight on how to deal with it. I'll be pointing them this direction. There's a lot of really confused hurting families, and some genuine concern for safety. Particularly women and children.

That's the one thing missing from all the assorted how-to-know-a-controlling spiritual group materials - how to manage it. What to do. What not to do. Nobody really knows.
